View Full Version : Kawhi Leonard: Most overrated player in the league?

Some of yall be putting him in the same tier as Lebron, Steph, and KD...I just don't see it. He's a good player, don't get me wrong, but he is not a top 5 player and imo he is barely top 10 (number 8 or 9 on my list).

maybe you should actually watch a game once in a while tbh. He is the best player on a top 2 western conference team, a 2 time DPOY , a FMVP winner against lebron nonetheless (where he held his own), a 40% 3p shooter, a deadly midrange scorer, all-star and deadly iso scorer.
If that's not top 5 I am really curious what is tbh.

If you think hes top 8-9 instead of top 3-5 hes probably not that overrated. Im sure there is someone you think is top 30 a lot of people have top 12-15.

Draymond Green is the most overrated player in the league. KAWHI is easily a top 10 player in the game, and I'd say he's between 5-8. He's the game's best defender hands down. He can very efficiently average a good 22 a game, -'d he balled out in the playoffs. I can't believe someone said "he can't carry a team like Dame lilard, and we saw that against OKC." Dame shot sub-40% in both rounds of the playoffs and would've been knocked out first round if CP3 didn't get injured. Also, KAWHI locked up Westbrook and Kd for long stretches of basketball during his playoff matchup. KAWHI is the real deal.

Dame literally shot like 38% from the field this playoffs. He had maybe 3 conventionally good games throughout the whole time.

Kawhi is getting there with the most overrated player but I say it's John Wall right now.

I'll wait for this season to judge
Kawhi is not overrated at all. He's added a lot to his offensive game. The guy is coming down and pulling up for 3's...on the SPURS. How many players would Pop let have free reign like that. Ginobli?
I don't understand how Kawhi is somehow underrated. He's pretty much the perfect heir to Duncan and right there with him in terms of how well he fits into Pop's system.
Can you imagine if Timmy and Kawhi played together in their primes? With just those two and role players around them, they would most likely be as good as the super stacked Warriors.

he didnt shoot well, but attracted a boat load of attention .. gravity where he was being doubled on picks 30 feet out.. which made even mason plumlee look like a beast for a while.

With Timmy gone this is his first year s the clear leader of the Spurs.
If the Spurs still win 60+ games and make the WCF he's 4th after the Big 3.
If the Spurs are really underwhelming (50ish win team and 1st/2nd round exit) he'll be middle of the pack of the top 10 behind CP3, Paul George, Westbrook...

After Bron, Steph and KD, Kawhi can arguably fit that 4th spot, along with some other players.

How much better is KD offensively over Leonard?
I am asking bec Kawhi is so much better defending esp the likes of Lebron etc.
btw, Durant had a total meltdown vs GSW, shooting like 28% for the playoffs.
Yes, Kawhi also struggled in his final games but atleast he he proven to win it all before.

Durant is on another level offensively. It's not close.
And Kawhi hasn't proven anything as the clear-cut guy on his team in the playoffs. His championship run he was just another key cog in the Spurs machine who happened to get hot in the finals. Even Danny Green at one point was looking like he had FMVP potential the year before. Kawhi took over as the top player in their title defense year...choked HARD in the first round, then this year disappeared in 4th quarters to blow the series against OKC. His resume as a first option is nothing special at all.

Kawhi was easily outplaying and locking down Westbrook/Durant in that series through the first few games until OKC's role-players just started going ape shit. Both of them dudes were shooting like 20% from 3-point land.
:oldlol:
Giannis will be lucky to sniff the 2nd round, never-mind make the finals and win FMVP or finish in the top 2 of MVP voting during literally the GOAT MVP season of any player (unanimous). He's already older than Leonard RIGHT NOW and will not get any better. Couldn't even make the Olympics.

I think this is probably the best assessment of Kawhi. The issues in the OKC series is he couldn't take games over offensively at all. The best of the best all can other than Green. But both Green and him are elite defenders that offer a good amount in several aspects.
Curious to see how he does this season, but as of now he's just a bit overrated while still being top 5 (being the 5th best).

Over 5 more minutes played (Pop :facepalm), way more freethrows (FT35 :oldlol:), almost same assists with less than half the turnovers, way more impactful rebounder with triple the offensive rebounds (statpadding defensive boards :lol), over 3 times as many steals....

Hes a bit of a funny one.
Best defender in the league easily that can defend all the best players in the league.
Offense, he cant create his own shot, a result of the spurs development system. But as a spot shooter hes all-star level.
Id say hes anywhere from 4-8.
If he could facilitate and create then hes easily number 1. His weaknesses can easily be masked with a good system or a quality PG though. So I dont have any beef with people rating him top 5.
But then again, people dont care about defense because it at most produces an extra spg or so and doesnt look great on the score sheet.

You'd have to be crazy not to take him, I'm not saying he's a bad player at all, just overrated when people put him up with the best of the best.
Adding on to that top 5 list, I'd also take players like George, Lillard, KAT, CP3, Tyreke Evans and Klay over him.

this is why you're an idiot and not a GM. cp3 now? westbrook or harden? george? ok, george is certainly in the top 7-10 range and i'm a george fan, but consistency is still an issue. kawhi played far better defense post all-star break too. hell, he put better stats in total for stat geeks.
