First ever first overall pick to score a hat trick+ in an NHL debut. Not just scored but put on a severe clinic.

Is he better than McDavid??? This might be a debate for years to come. This is Gretzky vs Lemiuex, Crosby vs Ovechkin, Manning vs Brady level debate. Hockey is in a good place for the future

Love that the kid is a Mexican-American from Arizona.

Great for USA hockey to have a phenom from that area of the country

What happened to all the Eastern Canadians? I thought this was big news in Toronto. Is Jays fever so big that Matthews goes unnoticed?

He's from Arizona.

His debut was pretty fantastic. You can tell this guy has skill right from the get go. Very hard to move him off the puck. He reminds me of a young Joe Thornton. But higher ceiling. His shot is awesome too. Best comparison I can make is a hybrid Thornton and Crosby. He's not as good as McDavid in my opinion. McDavid moves more fluidly and can handle the puck better at top speed. Both are phenoms. Generational type players. He's not better than Crosby now but has potential to reach and exceed.

I think McDavid is on track to be one of the greats so it'll be hard for anyone to be better than him moving forward
