I get the NBA taking the high road and not wanting to open up a can of worms for the PNW to feed on. But come on..

Hasn't occurred to the dumbarses how much money they'd make from it.

As soon as they realize that, they'll be out.

The wolves were technically never the Muskies but they wore those ABA throwbacks.

The Clippers are no longer the Buffalo Braves. Still wear the Braves throwbacks.

The Thunder is just a shitty organization, Now KD is gone they're gonna expose themselves as the D-League franchise. Just look at the branding of the team, the Thunder? Wtf is that? Sounds as stupid as the Tulsa Shock. If Russ leaves this organization ever, then it's just going to go to shit. Like the Nets after VC and Kidd left.

Kings are no longer the "Kansas City Royals".. the list goes on.

The Nets went to shit because they have a lackluster front office. As for their organization as a whole, they got an amazing new arena, moved from Jersey to Brooklyn and totally re-branded. They just need players.

Because the backlash they'll get from the rest of the league

Seattle is still bitter, NBA doesn't want to lose that market or piss them off

I remember when the Sonics left for OKC, they made a deal with the city that they can keep the heritage of the franchise such as name, retired numbers, and history.

Cannot confirm that but I think that was part of the deal. I think they were just happy to get a team to OKC they were willing to give up the identity of the Sonics.

They still have the teams history, but they did say they were willing to give it back when Seattle gets a team

That makes sense.

I did a little research and it is actually a pretty weird gray area.

So basically the history of the franchise did in fact transfer from Seattle to OKC (http://newsok.com/time-for-thunder-to-use-retired-sonic-numbers/article/5430595).

The Sonics retired 6 numbers (Gus Williams

On top of this being a painfully stupid idea, I don't know if they are allowed to because of the terms agreed upon when they left Seattle. As far as I know, the "Supersonics" rights were retained by Seattle.
