My kindergarten son has a project on England. I'm to help him draw and color the English flag. I was ready to start doing the St. George's Cross flag.

My wife got to talking to the teacher about this project and the teacher said, "If it was me I'd do this one."

I think she's just being lazy and doesn't truly get it. I told my wife, "She's nuts! That's the UK flag....not the English flag." I'm still going to do the correct one.

Does the teacher have a point? English ISHers what do you think? I don't want my son being docked for this.

Chances are she doesn't know the difference between England and the UK or the English flag and the Union flag.

The English flag IS NOT the Union Jack. Your sons teacher is clueless.

Should go back to the original now that Ireland is independent.

I would have your son draw a penu s.

Obviously you are correct but on the other hand I think that the use of "English" when referring to the UK is so widespread (similarly to "American" for the US - even if it's the opposite mistake) that the teacher's mistake (if it didn't come from a teacher :D) would be understandable.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Brexit may usher out the blue though.

No it won't. Scotland will get EU entry vetoed by Spain. Already had a referendum on leaving UK and it lost.

Still not as much as England because they are a little bit browner.
