CJ is NASTY and I don't think he's far behind -- if he's behind at all. He's super craft off the dribble and he's also a solid shooter.
DD is obviously a great midrange scorer and pretty creative around the basket at times too, and played a big role in Toronto's postseason success.
What do you guys think?

I gotta give DeMar the edge defensively, but overall I like CJ's game more... he's a much better distance shooter and just as good of a pure scorer inside the arc. Boiled down to positive impact, I think it's more likely McCollum winds up on a title team in the future.
Thus I say CJ > DeMar.

I'm gonna go with DeMar, because he's the more accomplished player.
But I like CJ's game way more than DeMar's.

I'll put it this way. I don't think either team would do a straight up trade for the other. I've known CJ was this good for a while. I've said he has a better offensive aresenal than Lillard. His weakness is his defense. He just doesn't have the foot speed. Cj is a fun player to watch. I hope he continues to progress.

Demar is better overall, I think.
But in the way the League and offenses are trending, I think most people will pick CJ. His spacing is unreal, and Demar just doens't shoot the 3 as much as I know.
C.J as a 2nd option is a no brainer to me.
But as a first option I'm definetly picking Demar.

Reminds me a lot of the Harden vs. Klay Thompson debate. I think Klay is a little overrated and maybe less "talented" (which is debatable), but he's far more capable of playing a championship role. You would probably rather have Harden as a first scoring option if you HAD to choose one, but like with DeMar, you damn sure ain't winning a ring with a Harden-led team.
In that debate it's not even close which one I'd rather have to start my team, because Klay is the far better defender on top of that.

I would take CJ pretty easily. Derozan is one of the most flawed star players in the league, he's proven consistently that his regular season production doesn't mean anything and that he will suck ass in the playoffs. Honestly, his playoff run this past year was one of the worst I've seen in a long time out of a multiple time all-star. Like the Raptors legitimately made the ECF in spite of him. His defense was trash, his 3PT range is terrible, his shot selection of forced long 2s is incredibly stupid, he's a gifted playmaker but that goes out the window..just an awful, awful player to have as a top 2 option on your team come playoff time.
CJ has his flaws too..can be streaky and inefficient at times, not a great defender, etc..but at the very least he's way smarter, is a much better shooter and contributor to spacing, and doesn't actively ruin your team by forcing things.

I don't know who CJ McCollum is.

Demissing is a undersized Rudy Gay without the postgame. McDonalds is not a defensive player who can shut down 2s let alone be efficient on switches so neither can be effective on a championship team.

CJ fits better into the style of today.
If Demar put his athletic talents to use as a stud defender, it would be a different story. Demar is really only a positive player at one aspect of basketball, scoring inside the arc. Important skill, but still :confusedshrug:
I don't think people realize how hard it is to carry an offense and that's exactly what demar does for long stretches at a time. He is the least selfish chucker I've seen if you understand what I mean.
CJ is legit and you can plug him into team and he'll have an impact with that jumpshot and range. Is he a championship calibre 2nd option? Im not sure yet. Demar definitely is.

If you strip away their athleticism, CJ is clearly superior. He has a much better feel for the game, better shot and better ability to break down defenders with skills. But athleticism is a part of the game and Demar is an athletic freak.
Right now, I would say they are about even. But CJ's arrow is pointing up. Not so sure about Demar. Although Demar does have the higher ceiling due to his athleticism if he maxes out.
