Especially since the talent gap between the Warriors and Spurs is about the same as the Cavs and the 2nd best team in the East.

Pls note the the WC teams have like an epidemic of injuries.
Memphis lost their TWO BEST players,
Same with the Clippers.
You also factor in that Eastern teams face those trashy Sixers, Magic etc team about 4 times and at the same time avoided facing the Spurs, GSW, OKC, which would have been like 10 automatic losses.
