That was awesome.

This is how old I am getting ... I remember watching Michigan's Fab Five take on Van Exel when he was at Cincinnati. I think it was a Final Four game, if memory serves.

Underrated player.

How I miss the days of Kenyon Martin, Ruben Patterson, Melvin Levett, D'Juan Baker, Damon Flint, Danny Fortson.

I loved Melvin Levett. The Helicopter!

Really hasn't been anyone with his exact style of flair before or since. Prime JWill had a bit of it, but NVE was more herky jerky and much better as a shooter/scorer.

That last shot against the Celtics for the win was the last shot ever by a Laker in the Boston Garden.

Not sure about monster, but in today's game he would definitely score in bunches. His game was built for today's NBA.

It was tough losing Magic & Worthy in the early 90's but getting talented guys Van Exel & Eddie Jones made the Lakers fun to watch. Van Exel was awesome!

he'd dominate in today's game

basically a more efficient, better passing version of Kemba

After Mark Price and Tim Hardaway, I think Nick was next in line for PG's in terms of having that exciting blend of great handles, passing, and shooting. He wasn't as good as them, but he was still clearly All Star caliber. If the Lakers never traded him, his career would have be looked at in a totally different way.

This reminds me of my childhood friend who always wore his Van Exel laker jersey when we played at the local courts. Thanks for posting this OP. Forgot how good this guy was.
