All else the same, let's say Kobe beats the Celtics in 2008 (winning FMVP), and the rest of his career goes as it actually did.

His career looks like this:
- 6 rings (two 3peats)
- 3 FMVP
- 1 RSMVP
- Most points by a guard all-time
- etc
- etc...

How does he rank all-time with that resume???

Also, how does that rank compare to the rank you have him at now???

Not trying to cause arguments, just a healthy debate.

I would have to admit he was G.O.A.T. if they had won in '08.

As it stands, I have him ranked number 12.

He jumps 11 slots off one ring?

Interesting.

He's 9th on my current list, if he wins that ring I got him 5th behind Jordan, Kareem, Bron, and Magic.

op, we dont mention that here, that name belongs in our heart & memory along with basketball god himself.

we only talk about the kind like lebron or durant or curry cos they are more like normal human being that we can relate to.

Lebron>Kobe, get over it.

It's 100% dependent on how he played in that Finals. If it's a 2010 choke job all over then he moves up a little but nothing significant.
If he put up a 2002 performance in that Finals against those Celtics I'd put him around the top 5, probably above Shaq/Timmy as greatest of the decade.

If Kobe didn't tear his Achilles he would have the most points of all time and had a few more elite seasons, boosting him to around the 4th or 5th best player of all time.

Kobe would've joined Jordan & LeBron as the only players to win MVP/FMVP & Olympic Gold in the same year, and would've been only the 6th player to win 3 FMVP, joining Jordan & Shaq as the only players to win 3 in a row. That title would've given Kobe a substantial boost historically

More near the 5-7 range than the 9-12 range. 3 peating as "the man" carries a lot of weight.

I cant understand how anyone puts him in their top 15, let alone top 10.

I wish you luck with that, any threads about Kobe, Lebron, or MJ usually devolve pretty quickly.

But, to answer your question, a ring over those Celtics and another FMVP should firmly place him top-10, seeing as there's been a growing narrative that he's just outside that.

Depends on how badly Branita would have broken down afterwards

If Len Bias didn't snort coke that night he would be the NBA's all time leading scorer, boosting him to around the 4th or 5th best player of all time.

I'm not the biggest Kobe fan, I do think he's a little overrated by some, but there's no way you could name 15 players that deserve to be ahead of him? Top 10 is not out of the question.

One more ring+FMVP makes him ~6-8 IMO.
