You probably thought this was a good comment, it wasn't though.
You realized they went to the NBA finals with their best player being 23 right? I'm surprised you're not happy about that because they lost like your idol Ilt.

In hindsight it looks like they had GSW-level talent but we'd never know that Harden had elite offensive talent if he had stayed there, there would just be a few huge OKC fans swearing he could average 30 while in reality he averages 18. Of course they still should have kept him but no one thought of him as more than Sixth Man of the Year in OKC.

Old Kobe was giving them work in the 2012 playoffs.
So KD was at the same time playing with 2x MVP caliber players, couldn't get it done.
One leaves. He can't win with the other one either.
Goes to a team with a back to back MVP, and the most stacked roster in the sport. Will he finally be able to do it now? And does that prove his greatness?

yes, but paying Oladipo $84m after the cap jumps by over 30% is not the same as giving Harden that sort of money years ago:facepalm
You understand that Mike Conley makes more the MJ ever did in a season right?

If you're building a one man show, Westbrook is the player you want.
If you're building a team with other superstars, Curry plays off ball better than just about any other point guard and gives you so much spacing.
It's comparing apples to oranges.

Incorrect. He had already shown all-star skills in OKC and many knew he of what he already was. I can vividly remember Van Gundy talking about him non stop during ABC Thunder game broadcasts. He had the passing skills, handle, and jump shot already...it was obvious he was going to be at least a 20 ppg and 7 assists per game type of guy.

In 2012, his final year in OKC, he was not an All-Star. He was, however, Sixth Man of the Year.

He was the 2nd best player on the team. He was already playing at an All-Star level even if he wasn't necessarily one.

Every analyst and NBA head said Harden was gonna score 25 a game once he went to the Rockets. He's even better than that.

Most people knew he was going to become one of the top scorers. He was on the 2012 USA team, so his talent and potential was obviously recognized, despite coming off the bench.

Richard Jefferson has played for Team USA. Harrison Barnes and Bradley Beal played just this summer. It absolutely does not make them superstar talents.

I can't be the only person thinking this, but Westbrook leading the team on his own gives the Thunder a better chance to win the title than we and Durant were secretly duking it out for supremacy.
Now you have an opportunity to legit build around one guy, arguably the best player in the NBA, and fit a team around him. Much easier to do than when you have two guys sharing the rock.

Yeah okay, but you said most people "thought of him as a sixth man of the year" as opposed to an all-star.
And most bball fans and knowledgeable people thought of him as an all-star player limited to sixth man due to having Durant and Westbrook controlling the ball all the time. We all could see he was a star, whenever he was given control of the offense. Thus, his Houston production was not a surprise to many of us. I'm not sure how to prove this, besides maybe finding some old articles written about Hr

Dude are you serious? The VAST majority thought Harden was going to be a beast.
He always had a high PER coming off the bench and was an efficient 3 point scorer and free throw shooter. Basically every thing about his game was scalable, which is why people expected him to be great with being a number 1 option and playing more minutes.

They would’ve competed for titles every year.
They would’ve peaked from 2015 to 2017 at some point. I think they get 3 rings from 2013 to now. Maybe a little more or less with good or bad luck.
