2006 is not the worst. We still got Aldridge, Rondo, Lowry, Millsap, Gay, Reddick, and for a short time, Brandon Roy.

Portland acquired the draft rights to 2nd pick LaMarcus Aldridge a 2007 second-round draft pick from Chicago in exchange for the draft rights to 4th pick Tyrus Thomas and Viktor Khryapa.[4]

Portland acquired the draft rights to 6th pick Brandon Roy from Minnesota in exchange for the draft rights to 7th pick Randy Foye. Previously, Portland acquired the draft rights to 7th pick Randy Foye, Raef LaFrentz and Dan Dickau from Boston in exchange for Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and a 2008 second-round draft pick.[4]

In the grand scheme of things it is. If Aldridge is your best player in that draft, compared to the ones in the last 20 years, then it is not a strong draft. I'm not saying the players you mentioned are bad, but the draft as a whole, especially the top half was weak.

Other that Oden, Portland has scouted the draft extremely well. They have a good history of drafts and draft day deals.

Oden wasn't bad scouting, he was a tremendous player when he could play. They couldn't have known his knees were that bad.

True, however he did show signs of injuries in college which should have been a red light.
He was high risk high reward, just like Embiid.

In terms of top heavy. Not in terms of depth. 1996 overall was a better draft. If you count accolades then Bill Russell all by himself trumps 84.

Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Allen ... Ben Wallace, Shareef, Stephon Marbury, Peja, Antoine Walker

Deeper? Maybe. But also doesn't equate to better. '84 had depth too. The first four for both are nice but this demolishes it:

GOAT, Hakeem, Barkley, Stockton ... Alvin Robertson, Sam Perkins, Otis Thorpe, Kevin Willis, Jerome Kersey

Just as deep but better up top and undeniably more successful. Everyone considers '84 the best draft ever.
