New York Fans. Historical Question

I have this New Yorker Magazine Covers calendar. One cover from Feb 5, 1966 shows a basketball court. Was there a special reason for this cover that had to do with New York basketball? I couldn't find anything.

only thing i got was it was called "Basketball game" by Arthur Getz. and thats about it.

Basketball at the World's most famous arena. Not a historical game date though.
