View Full Version : NBA working on a 10hr MJ documentary

Hey Yo

The NBA and a group of accomplished filmmakers are working on a 10-hour documentary about Michael Jordan, Richard Johnson of the New York Post reports.

The project is expected to focus on Jordan’s post-baseball comeback in the mid- to late-90’s but has not yet begun production.

Mike Tollin, who was heavily involved in ESPN’s critically acclaimed 30 for 30 series, is heading the production, Johnson reports, and the team has approached ESPN, Showtime, HBO and Fox Sports with a $20 million asking price.

Jordan retired after winning his third NBA title in 1993 to play baseball, and there have long been rumors that his sudden departure from the game was the result of secret suspension for gambling. The film, which is authorized by Jordan, is expected to “gloss over his love of gambling,” Johnson reports.

:oldlol: Of course or he would never authorize it.

I mean, nobody cares about his gambling except people who don't like him that much. All these dudes are huge gamblers so I really don't care.

But 10 hours? Should be interesting but Id still probably rather watch the Legend of the Greatest if I'm going to watch some Jordan shit thats that long.

Then why would MJ make sure it's not part of the documentary?

Maybe cause he's embarrassed about how addicted he is/was??

don't we have a youtube video of MJ thats like 2-5 hours long?

sidenote:

Still awesome of MJ even with his addiction with gambling, he still has the energy and drive to play NBA games night in and out. Remembered a story on the dream team about that as well.

Nobody has 10 hours to spend on a documentary, that's way too long. At most 2 hours is enough for everybody. :facepalm

Will watch every minute. They should do like a week long series of it like the OJ Made in America.

I wonder if it will go into his Wizard years.

Hopefully they do it right. 10 hours in several episodes should be enough to educate these youngsters about the GOAT. You think some of us in here suck MJ off? Watch the rest of the world do the same when this comes out.

Also, is anyone really watching a Michael Jordan documentary to be educated on the pitfalls of gambling addiction?

I'd prefer to see him put balls in baskets. That's just me, though.
When you consider gambling addiction led to his fathers murder, and Jordan's subsequent meltdown/rage-quit from the NBA..... seems like a rather big thing to gloss over, don't ya think?

MJ has to be the most worshipped athlete ever. Literally every player ever is compared to him and now he's getting a damn 10 hour documentary. It just feels excessive. You'd think there was never, ever, a good basketball player after he retired or while he played lmao.

If you believe that, I guess. But no one with a functioning cerebrum and medulla oblongata buys into that horsesh!t.

Outside America, MJ is very often the only basketball player a lot of people know. He is a myth. He almost like he is bigger than the sport itself.

The only other athlete that I can think of that is on MJ's status as an icon who transcended his sport is Ali. No doubt he is a God like figure. Literally.

Aren't there enough Jordan documentaries out there already?! That's like doing a 10-hour Kurt Cobain documentary as if there isn't a docu on him yet...

It would be best to do a 90 minute documentary similar to the Magic vs Bird: Courtship of Rivals or Dr. J documentary. I do not see a 10 hour documentary on anything sports related keeping the general public's attention.

Oh, so this is going to be a "manufactured" documentary that just puts MJ in a pleasant light? That's not a documentary at all then, but a vanity project.

Unless this is a 10 hour doc that features like 6-7 hours of unseen NBA-derived game footage, it's about 7-8 hours too long. And I say that as the biggest MJ fan in the world.
