Kareem definetly deserves it.
Michael Jordan, GOAT as he may have been (And he is the undisputed GOAT) didn't seem to do much for people, and mostly been out for himself (Which is not wrong or anything.) Unlike players like Russell or kareem who have helped fight racisem.
So sure, MJ is an Icon and one of the greatest athletes ever, but I don't know if he 'contributed' to society that much as much to himself and his brands (Nike, Mcdonalds)
Still with all that said, kudos and good for these two, nice to see NBA players get such a high honor.

Jordan is simply an excellent human being. Gambling, and drunkenly telling Chamillionaire he's not taking a picture with other nigguhs doesn't make one a bad human being. More like keeping it real.

LOL Why the **** would Michael Jordan get a Medal of Freedom? He's legitimately one of the 5 biggest pricks in sports ever. (outside the murderers and rapists of course) This is without mentioning that he's also an incredibly selfish human being who is only out to get his.

Keeping it real is what Dr.J does, what Larry Bird does. MJ literally only looks out for MJ, I can't fw it.

Nah that was Scottie. Like sitting out the end of a playoff game, selfishly throwing a tantrum. Or as he's known as around Chicago ... No Tippin Pippen.
Just because Jordan didn't labor us with his moronic political views like Jim Brown, Ali, or the even more stupid LeBron James doesn't make him selfish. It means he understands he's an entertainer that doesn't want to alienate fans.

Settle down...this is not a battle you are going to win and is just going to be a repeat of your "jordans dick isn't small" embarrassment. Michael Jordan is known universally as a selfish asshole and degenerate gambler. This is has nothing to do with the Bulls or Pippen or anything else...it's a simple fact. I'm not sure why you always have to defend him in EVERY WAY like he's your daddy or something.

MJ/Kareem to get Medal of Freedom from Obama
Ironically and fittingly, an honor by someone who received a Nobel Peace and even he has no idea why he won it. As for the "sport" broadcast, they didn't even bother to mention Kareem, who was pretty much every bit as great as Jordan a player and a bigger social contributor. :facepalm

Right, Right. Because Patrick Beverly slamming into Westbrook's knees had nothing to do that.

Even if you are absolutly right in your assesment,
I don't think it warrents him getting a MOF from Obama, does it?
But then again, I don't suppose it's any harm giving it to him.
But you might as well give one to Montana and Tiger Woods while you're at it.

Kareem definitely derserved it, I don't agree with all his opinions, but he is socially aware and articulate. He has been an activist since his early days.

KAJ's social activism is completely overrated. I have been living in LA most of my life and KAJ pretty much stays out of the limelight. If "social activism" is simply giving your opinion on a matter, then he has done so. But if "social activism" is starting foundations, physically engaging with people in need and staying in touch, he has not done much of it.
Here in LA, KAJ is revered but not loved like Magic. Even a guy like Worthy gets much more on-camera time as an analyst with the Lakers. KAJ pretty much hates doing anything public related. And a lot of times, when he comes on radio/TV shows, it's for a reason. Like promoting a book. He seldom does interviews because he's cordial and wants to do it.

LA is full of grade A assholes, just like yourself, your handle is ClipperRevival but you rock an MJ avvy and cannot take his **** out of your mouth to have an opinion outside how it tastes. MJ was always coddled by the media and did not taste discrimination as in ever, you want example of social activism from early days?

He is also known as the ultimate competitor who gave his heart and soul every time he stepped on the court. A guy who overcame obstacle after obstacle to win and impose his will on his opponents. That's what people remember about MJ. Not the sh*t you're talking about you salty Pip fan. :oldlol:

Had a feeling you would post that pic. I can't comment on his playing days prior to the Showtime Lakers. If he was somewhat active, then I stand corrected. But I can say for sure what he did AFTER his Showtime Laker days as an "activist", which isn't much.

except for those B2B years at UNC after Worthy left. They were the favorites but he couldn't "impose his will on his opponents"

JordanRevival bringing the absolute cringe in this thread. Lebron and especially kobe stans are morons, but these MJ stans take it to a creepy cult-like level. Humorously enough, JR and Coach aren't even the worst...Andgar and 3ball are much worse...which goes to show the level of mental sickness within this group of stans.

Look guys, in the basketball world (this is a basketball message board), Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the truth. The best to ever play. Some of us just realize this FACT at our core. So in the end, when we praise MJ, we are simply speaking the truth.

I remember reading back in 98 that Jordan up to that time added billions of dollars into the US economy. So in that sense I guess he served the country's interest. Other than that he's been pretty quiet. He did make two million dollar donations a few months ago to I think the NAACP, and to a police group.

That's called a PR move...Jordan has never and will never care about anybody or anything outside of the circle of his personal interest. It's a joke to give him this honor, PERIOD.
For all this nonsense of how I hate Jordan...I don't take anything away from the man as a basketball player. He and KAJ are two greatest basketball players ever. None of this changes the fact that he's a shitty human being, though. Giving him this honor is an insult to people who actually make a positive difference in this country.

PR move for what? Spending two million dollars to impress people? I would understand coming up with such a theory if he was trying to accomplish something that requires a positive public opinion and had a string of such moves.
This Medal of Freedom doesn't even seem like a big deal, thousands of people have one. Here's a list of other sports people who haven gotten one.
Hank Aaron
Muhammad Ali
Arthur Ashe
Ernie Banks
Yogi Berra
Earl Blaik
Paul "Bear" Bryant
Roberto Clemente
Joe DiMaggio
Billie Jean King
Robert J. H. Kiphuth
Willie Mays
Stan Musial
Jack Nicklaus
Buck O'Neil
Jesse Owens
Arnold Palmer
Richard Petty
Frank Robinson
Jackie Robinson
Bill Russell
Vin Scully
Charles Sifford
Dean Smith
Pat Summitt
Ted Williams
John Wooden
I wouldn't be surprised if Lebron James got one in the future, simply for reaching his level of success.
I Love Lucy has one.

Shrug...I guess it doesn't mean shit. Still, though, giving him this is like giving me the "nicest guy on ish" award.
Obama probably included MJ cause he's his favorite player of all time and played in Chicago...Seriously, there's no reason MJ should be included in this...

LOL Why the **** would Michael Jordan get a Medal of Freedom?
Babe Ruth, Ali, Jordan
Jordan probably heads that class.. Forbes estimated his economic impact to be over 100 billion.. Nike would be nothing without him.. There would be no Kobe or Lebron or today's modern player without him.
He's simply the most impactful basketball player.. Ever.. And you're asking why he would get a Medal of Freedom.. :facepalm .. Go to bed young man.. It's past your bed time
