I used to be a fan of Allan Houston, but as I get older I find myself watching TONS of YouTube and trying to copy MJ's shooting form.

What say you?

J.R. Swish has a silky smooth shooting form.
Irl I would say my form is closest to Melo's.

I thought you weren't allowed to jump on a free throw? Hm...I just looked it up and I guess you can...I did not know that. I always assumed you had to have both feet on the floor.

Nah you can jump, but with jumping on a free throw there's more things that could go wrong on the free throw. Hassan Whiteside did it recently.

It is just hard to imagine MKG doing something that could actually make his form worse. He breaks every rule. I guess he could turn around and just throw it over his head, but he's pretty close to doing that right now. Why some of these guys don't just go granny style, I'll never figure out. Like it is any more embarrassing than his current form? I guess he shoots 68% from the line which isn't awful.

But, a guy like Drummond? Go to granny style already and be done with it.

As for jumping from the free throw line, it is legal if you're going vertical. You just can't jump toward the hoop (obviously). I think for a time Wilt was actually jumping at the basket from the free throw line, so they had to make a special rule outlawing it. If that film exists, it has to be hilarious.

I really like JJ Redick's form, textbook

definitely NOT Hero Ball Curry's push shot ...

CP3 simple , smooth, and with range.
He isn't given enough credit for his jumper , than his team leadership and dimes.

K. Irving is another example of a simple jumper that is very effective.

Oh yeah, CP3 is up there. The way he's learned to lean back and angle it up over the defender because he's small is a thing of beauty.

I would have to agree with the OP Allan Houston and Michael Jordan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnJjHsllwbA Might as well throw Kobe in the mix.

There's something about Houston that I like slightly better, but overall Jordan has the edge because of his foot work and fade aways.

Nash was just so crafty at getting his points. Not flashy but with his small frame you just didn't know what he was gonna do half the time.

Eric Gordon has like the most textbook form you will ever see. Elbow straight, forming that T with a perfect follow through. Ditto for Nash.

Curry's release is awe inspiring in how quick he gets it off.

MJ also had textbook form and used his legs nicely too. Watch when he shoots a free throw, he uses his legs too with a knee bend in one motion. Most guys don't do that for FTs and kind of arm shoot it.

A shooting form like this never got him to the pro's but his skill set obviously did.
I remember a high school player on my team was diss'ed by coaches for his childhood push shoot. .. he raised his shot and made the team next year.

The above pic shows that childhood shoot , long lasting , and to correct it would be impossible.
But watch his release point , just like us folks. :applause:
