Murray has been pretty crazy lately. He barely got to shoot it the first few games and he's a volume guy. Considering he went like 0-16 his first 4 games, and is playing in a crowded backfield I'm pretty impressed. He's had two crazy stretches where he just exploded for points vs Portland/Bulls. Hitting insane shots.
Looks way more athletic than he did in college where he was more of a spot up shooter with Ulis/Briscoe. I was a huge fan in college but even I thought his defense would be trash but because he's playing with so much effort on that end and the improved quickness it's actually been pretty good. I think he could have a Bookeresque jump in a month or two.
Im so nba'd out

Yeah, it looks like he's going to be good one. Athletic/explosive enough at this level, shot looks right and most importantly, plays with confidence. Booker is definitely a solid comparison. He's got that solid, overall athleticism along with the shot.

On the flip side, Mudiay looks like a guy trying to play bball and nothing comes natural to him. And his athleticism is overrated. I always felt that way even in college. He's just not that explosive. His ceiling is pretty low, especially given his broke shot.

I always thought he had sneaky athletic ability in college but he's improved quite abit IMO. He was flying against Chicago. Didn't think he'd be able to blow by a guy like Butler at the NBA level. He's getting some pretty good hangtime on layups too. Switched hands on that one vs the Bulls.
Not sure who he 100% compares too but I think if the minutes/shots are there than he's going to score some buckets. Early on he kinda looked like without getting touches and getting into rhythm. Explosive once he gets going. Had like 17 in 11 vs Chicago and 19 in the 4th vs Portland. Averaging 11 on 44/44/80 in 22 minutes for November.

Mudiay didn't go to college. He went overseas and played like 7 games before getting hurt. His athletic ability was overrated in the sense that he's not a great leaper. Not really explosive. He's big, quick, fast, strong, and has pretty good coordination. Just can't shoot, finish, and he's so raw as a basketball player.
He still shows flashes just about consistently putting it together. Still think he has a high ceiling. He has great court vision when he wants to use it. Great at beating the D and getting to the bucket. Shot is crazy inconsistent and he can't finish. His floor is low. High bust rate but not going to call it at 20 when he basically came into the NBA 7 games removed from HS.

Probably is in all seriousness. Mudiay is so hit or miss. Malone recently called him out finally and he had a really great 3 game stretch but than just reverted back to himself vs Chicago. He needs to just be consistent instead of up one game and down 5. Mudiay is a guy who made a huge mistake skipping college.
Murray played PG internationally and in HS. Played with Ulis/Briscoe at Kentucky so obviously not much PG there. Always calls himself a PG. Doubt Denver ever makes a switch but hope Murray gets a chance to go off later in the season at the two.

Yeah, I know he played in China. Meant before entering the draft. But some guys look like athletes trying to play the game while some seem to have the game come naturally to them. Mudiay is definitely the former.
I just never understood the scouts saying he had elite athleticism. He had the right PG size/strength but that's different from athleticism.

Not really. For some reason people only care about vertical explosion and leaping ability. Probably because it's the easiest to see and most pleasing because of dunking. Strength is obviously an athletic trait. Just like lateral quickness, speed, quickness, coordination, body control are as well. Just like you have to factor in size. Shaq was a ridiculous athlete for someone 7'1. Howard insane for 6'9 or 6'10.
Mudiay was considered a good athlete because he's 6'5/200+ probably at this point and he's strong as an ox, quick, great first step, very good lateral quickness. It's just his leaping ability isn't impressive. He can hang in the air but going up he's not explosive. It's like Jason Kidd. Kidd was an athletic beast coming out and in his prime but he was never a guy that was going to wow you in the air.
Mudiay is great at beating guys off the dribble. Creating looks with his size/speed. Just can't finish, or double clutches, or hangs in the air and takes a poor shot. Not unheard of for a 20 year old who more or less came into the NBA straight outta HS essentially.

Disagree about strength. You can improve strength. Athleticism is God given. You either have it or you don't. You can't teach it. People overrated his "athleticism" because he had a solid, NBA ready body. But that's different from athleticism.
I get what you're saying though. Not necessarily disagreeing with you.

Fair enough. I think some guys are just naturally strong across all sports. That kinda strength you can't teach or assume will be developed.
I genuinely agree. Mudiay was pegged an elite athlete. He's not. Very good and excellent in some areas, maybe even elite but overall he's a pretty clear step behind the elite athletes at PG like Westbrook/Wall etc.

Murray hit the second most 3's for a freshmen behind only Steph Curry. He's only 19 years old and he's forcing his hand with Denver. Flip was like 24 when he started producing in the NBA. Murray's ceiling is significantly higher than Flip's.
I could see Flip being kinda what Murray's floor could be as a scorer off the bench or something but even than kind of a bad comparison considering Flip shot 30% from deep on .7 makes and Murray at the very least should be a great 3 point shooter in this league.

Absolutely. If you have a guy who is extraordinarily strong for his size, that is definitely a natural advantage. Like D. Howard's strength gets overlooked but he's incredibly strong. So is a guy like Julius Randle. Guys just bounce off of them upon contact.

Mudiay haters galore
Acting like the dude hasnt had huge games this season while Jamal stunk up the joint
Stop putting these huge expectations on players who havent even played 82 games yet COMBINED.
As long as they show their potential every few games the hate isnt warranted
