View Full Version : Better mid-range shot, Melo or MJ?
Hey Yo

True mid-range is about 12-17 feet.
Both are pretty deadly from that range, but it's probably MJ. But not by as much as some like to believe/think.

Melo probably gets his shot off easier because of his size but I think MJ's speed and quickness in combination with having to respect his ability to drive makes him much more deadly. Young MJ was doing some of the most athletic mid range shots I've ever seen. His hangtime and jump height on his shot was something to behold.

Melo is great at midrange, Jordan has a case for best of all time in that area.

Melo. If melo played in mj's era, his fg% would be over 50%

MJ because his athleticism, even at age 30-35, was just crazy. He could get off a clean look at any time.

If being guarded by a forward, MJ's. If being guarded by a guard, Melo's.

They're probably equal in the midrange game.
Melo is better from deep.
MJ better in the post.
MJ wildly better at every single aspect of the game

Pretty easily Jordan. Prime Jordan was shooting like 48-51% in the midrange on huge volume. What's Melo shooting?

Better 3 point shot, Curry or Yao Ming?

Both are pretty good, but slightly worse than Lebron

It's close but I'll go with Melo
Carmelo isn't better than Jordan at a single aspect of basketball.

Rebounding is a contest. But yeah Jordan was consistently above average to great from midrange. The stats we have put him over 50% in his prime and in '98.

What? This is a ridiculous question. Melo doesn't even belong in the same sentence, FOH.

So Jordan haters are basically comparing him to anyone now? Please dont put Melo and GOAT in the same sentence.

I'm not asking about their all around game or team success ya douchebag. If you'd actually seen Melo play, he's got a pretty nice mid range shot.
I even said in the OP that MJ's was better, but not by much.

melo's face up midrange game is absolutely elite, it is clearly superior to jordan's, on the other hand jordan is easily better in midrange post-up game.

around 45% from 16 and out and average of 43% from 10-16(last 4 years in ny, he was a completely different player in denver). This year he's at 50% and 52.5% but tht's most likely dropping.
I agree it's MJ. The percentages just aren't there for anyone besides maybe Dirk or a lower volume guy like Nash. Still, the percentages argument is the same one MJ guys hate in the MJ vs Lebron finishing debate.

I'm not even referring to them as overall players, you dumb ho. I'm saying Jordan is the greatest midrange shooter the league has ever seen. Carmelo Anthony, not so much. Since I'm too lazy to actually surf to bball-ref to compare their midrange %, I'll just leave it at 2P%: Jordan .510, Anthony .476
So no, your comparison is still terrible.
