He was awful.

I thought he was darn good, for the bits and pieces I saw. At the very least he had some good insight on the type of reads quarterbacks should be making.

I thought he did a great job.

He's extremely intelligent, regarding football.

I liked that he was calling play before it happened

Not fair to judge based off those clips instead of a whole game, but...pretty good? His voice is rough I guess but from a color commentator I just want content. Simms had a better voice but he struggled to construct a coherent sentence, much less give you insight on the game.

I used to hate Collinsworth and how smarmy he was but I've done a 180 on him, he's easily been the best guy the last couple of years.

Not many people in or around the NFL I dislike as much as Dolt Simms.

Maybe Jerry Jones, John Mara, Terrell Suggs, Chip Kelly.

after 4 games its safe to say romo is my favorite commentator by far. i dont understand complaints about his voice, i love that he doesnt have one of those cheesey "sports announcer" voices, he just sounds like a normal guy who is excited about football. he is so in tune with everything happening on the field, seems like he can see every play before it happens. cbs should bring back mike carey and have him make bets with romo live on the air.

another great thing is that romo has brought jim nantz out of his deep depression by rescuing him from phil simms, and now the cbs nfl broadcasts have gone from being the worst to the best.

does anybody really miss this shit?

I don't need a guy to tell me what play is coming or who's gonna do what before it even happens.

He's taking the suspense out of it because he's always right. And he does it quite often.

Stick him on the 3rd CBS crew. I don't like him doing all the high profile games.

I thought he was outstanding last night.

His little tidbits about what a QB is looking at pre-snap are great. At halftime, he literally said 'the Bears need to come out in 3 wide sets', and the entire second half opening drive, the Bears were in three wide sets.

Hating on him is completely ridiculous but who would expect any less from carbine.

Pretty much every other color announcer has nothing to offer all game but banal platitudes like "boy, what a football player he is"

I dislike his commentary as much as I did when he started. Greg Olsen is much better.

It's an incredibly weak era for analysis. Greg is an all timer though, he should be the voice of Fox for the next couple decades.

Bumping him down in favor of Brady will be a mistake.

Has there ever been anything resembling "intelligent" analysis on the mainstream TV broadcasts in all of NFL history tho? Its not like John Madden was some kind of Football savant, he just had a good voice and good catch phrases.

Actual quality analysis used to come from a couple sports shows and print media, and today it mostly comes from places like youtube
