Jazz fans will no doubt want to thank Lyles for being the key piece in the trade that brought back Donovan Mitchell.

let's hope he doesn't get booed for being a gunner. Did he beat Faried out for the rotation?

At this point, they may need to make up some ground in the playoff race

But it’s Game 1 after the all-star break and trade deadline. Will the Jazz look different? Will they have the same roster? Will there be new faces?

No doubt it will be a much different team. Gobert, Mitchell and who? Favors, Johnson, Hood and Rubio need to go for sure. Probably some others just to make room for whoever they get for the former and maybe to make those deals work. Young prospects, young vets, picks, cash and other assets. Playing for next season or the one after

George Hill makes his first, and only, return visit to Utah this season. He was very good for the Jazz last year, but things ended on a rather sour note, as he was largely unavailable in the second round of the playoffs against Golden State. How will the fans receive him? He only played one year for the Jazz, but those 47 games were certainly productive.

should get a huge reception but who knows they may boo him

So how is Lindsey a wizard when young NBA rotation players are getting cut from a mediocre team?

https://www.ksl.com/?sid=46180876&nid=304&title=jazz-waive-former-weber-state-forward-center-joel-bolomboy

Bolomboy was the 15th man with a guaranteed contract on the roster, but that doesn't include point guard Raul Neto, who figures to spend significant time as the Jazz's backup point guard this season now that Dante Exum has gone down with a separated shoulder.

Not sure Neto will play still. I guess if Exum had been healthy maybe Neto would have been traded or even cut?

Second, Bolomboy found himself among a big man glut on the Jazz's roster. All of Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors, Ekpe Udoh and Tony Bradley can play center, and Favors, Udoh, Jonas Jerebko, Joe Johnson and even Thabo Sefolosha can play at the power forward position.

To me only Rudy, Favors, Johnson look like they should be playing over him. Why not get rid of the old man Johnson? Why sign the free agents they did?

The roster and contract factors combined for the Jazz to waive Bolomboy's $1.3 million guaranteed salary for this season. The Jazz will still have to pay Bolomboy that salary unless another NBA team claims Bolomboy on waivers in the next 48 hours.

That might be why they cut him too, More likely to get picked of of waivers than O'Neale I'd think though both look like they could help teams

That's unfortunate for the Stars, who counted on Bolomboy's talents whenever he was in the G-League.

Was one of the best players in the league last year and though the league should be better this year he belongs in the NBA

While the 6-foot-8 Ingles has started 60 games over the past three seasons, this will mark the first time he will open the season as a starter unless Snyder surprises us Wednesday night.

He might. I think it was a couple years ago when the opening night line-up was different than who'd ben playing in the pre-season. Hopefully it's Hood to the bench for Mitchell though. Ingles is their best shooter and one of their best defenders. Only reason I could see bringing him off the bench is to run the offense more.

[QUOTE]Besides the shooting, Ingles has developed into a reliable passer and defender, often taking the opponent

finally being on a team expected (even if only internally) to make the playoffs

Not sure the Jazz expect to make the playoffs. The players might.

If he delivers then the Jazz could have 3 top 50 players next year.

Hood, Rubio and Favors should all be gone by the all star game. Mitchell and Gobert is where it's at now

Joe Ingles is a top 100 player despite ESPN and SI leaving him off.

4th best player on the Jazz last year. Might be 3rd or 4th now?

A deal with Exum was never particularly close. Exum's camp wants to bet on his potential, while the Jazz want to see consistent on-court production before giving him an eight-figure annual salary.

I would have loved for him to show he's a basketball player before giving him a roster spot over Bolomboy. He hasn't earned more than a 6 figure non guaranteed deal! 8? :lol

The Jazz like Hood, but want to see whether he's capable of staying healthy, being a solid defender and scoring efficiently in a more featured role this season. He, too, was likely asking for somewhere above $15 million per year.

15 mill! No thanks

Steve Kyler ✔@stevekylerNBA
Heard Rodney Hood's camp worked hard on an extension but could find enough ground for a deal. Jazz would likely match if he stays healthy
4:10 PM - Oct 16, 2017

Didn't work too hard if they passed. I hope they don't match some insane figure and 15-18 a year is insane for a 1 trick pony

There's not a ton of flexibility for the Jazz: They have $67 million tied up in six players next year. But they should be able to open up enough cap space for a max salary offer for most players if they find a worthy taker.

Only ones that matter are Gobert and Mitchell. Burks should be tradable if healthy again. Rubio you would hope is tradable but who wants a pg from the 80's? Ingles contract might be tradable but the 4 years might make it hard

So why O'Neale? Snyder led it off with probably the most important factor: "Positionally, he's a fit for our group right now."

Bolomboy is even moreso from what I saw

Bolomboy had at least four or five players ahead of him who could play power forward or center.

I count Favors and Gobert and Johnson. 2 of who should be gone later this season

O'Neale, on the other hand, probably has an easier route to playing time.

not seeing it especially with the guys that will be moved when the Jazz suck

[QUOTE]There's work left for O'Neale. Both he and Snyder agree that he has to work on the consistency of his 3-point shooting

The news is a crippling blow for both Exum and his team. Now, the Jazz will have to lean harder on players like Raul Neto, Alec Burks, Donovan Mitchell to initiate the offense when starting point-man Ricky Rubio is on the bench.

sounds like a good thing. The crippling part is he is on the team instead of Bolomboy!

What stings is that they kept a still unproven prospect over someone that looked ready to be a rotation player

No mention of Thabo or Donovan

He is projecting to be their go-to scorer on offense, now that Hayward is out of the picture. Hood has great size at 6-foot-8, and is a real threat from beyond the arc. He also has the potential to contribute in a multitude of categories on any given night.

Which categories are these? FGA? FGM? 3ptM? 3ptatt? points?

Ingles will be backed up by none other than Iso Joe. Joe Johnson

no he won't

The worst facet of Rubio's offense is his penchant for shooting mid-range shots, where almost 44% of his attempts came from this past season. The saving grace is that he connected on 45% of these attempts, which is one the best conversion rates in the NBA, so perhaps is the not worst shot-selection.

Rather he made 2's than miss 3's and lay-ups

Fun fact: Ricky Rubio has NEVER dunked in an NBA game.

surprising especially since he can't make lay-ups

The bottom line: Rubio can get pretty easy shots

because he can't shoot and is left open. duh!

Never uses Euro Step or Floaters when attacking the basket, which is what you'd expect from an non-athletic point guard, and this hurts his efficiency, as he prefers pull-up jumpers and scoop layups that are hit-or-miss.

I would imagine the Jazz have him working on a floater like everyone else on the team
