the fan in me wants JR Smith to be okay and be able to get back to 100%. he has a legit chance (meaning the skills and upside/potential) to be an allstar one day.

I bet the window shattered right after that picture was taken because she's above the law. Just like cars, glass and her have an understanding that she goes where she wants to. No glass will get in her way.

So now that we have established this, JR obviously assumed the opposing car was going to swerve off the road because he's above the law. Some sort of malfunction, isn't that right, silly Mavs fan?

You're a moron, JR Smith obviously didnt see the other car coming, which is why he ran the stop sign, because he felt like breaking the law and MIGHT have thought he was above the law.

He thought he could get away with breaking the law. That's different than being above the law.

Thinking you're above the law means you can't believe it when you're actually punished for a crime or sometimes you actually can get away with things due to money and other resources.

I would like to point out a few things,

First of we should all pray/hope for them to be alright because they are humans.

We know JR Smith from Basketball, so it isn't totally selfish to hope he can play again.

And finally, his attitude has nothing to do with this, he still doesn't deserve this.

get off it dude, you don't know what happened, the driver might not have known the sign was there, or it was covered up or he was dui so jst stfu.

1.) JR Smith was the driver

2.) He ran a stop sign

3.) He obviously was not wearing a seat belt ( state law for most places if not all)

4.) This was due to carelessness, or even worse as you pointed out, DWI/DUI.

So yes, it is a valid argument to say that he thinks he is above the law just because he is a professional athlete. I mean, it's not against his character to act like pretentious idiot. Just look at his previous situation w/ Byron Scott when he played for the hornets.

Unless he thought the law should not apply to him or thought he could weasel his way out of any incident, he didn't think he was above the law.

Do I think I'm above the law when I don't fully stop at a stop sign? No, I just don't care so I'm breaking the law.

Smith was drafted No. 18 overall by the New Orleans Hornets. After enduring a contentious relationship with coach Byron Scott in his first two seasons, Smith was traded twice last summer, and seemed to settle in as the starting two-guard with the Denver Nuggets under coach George Karl. But shortly after scoring a career-high 37 points against Miami last Dec. 8, very little went right.

Eight days later, he was involved in the infamous brawl at Madison Square Garden against the Knicks and was suspended for 10 games. In late February, he suffered a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery and missed three weeks. And in the first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, Smith struggled mightily, averaging 4.5 points on 27 percent shooting, which made him a target for his coach's wrath.

Karl, in fact, publicly declared Smith a persona non grata after the Nuggets fell behind 3-1 in the series, stating, "He's done," and ridiculing him for taking a poor shot near the end of Game 4 with, "I just love the dignity of the game being insulted right before me."

According to the police report, the accident happened after Smith's vehicle went around a vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Stillhouse Road where it intersects with Stagecoach Road in Millstone Township.

The police report said that after Smith continued into the intersection, his car was hit by another car, which had the right of way. The impact overturned Smith's SUV, tossing out Smith and Bell in the process.

Ok, I like JR Smith. I've always liked J.R. Smith, always been my boy with the Hornets and Nuggs.

But this wasn't just a traffic violation. If I'm reading this right, he went AROUND another car stopped at the stop sign in front of him and continued driving into the intersection where someone else was already moving. That is beyond reckless, especially since the car on the other side still had the right of way. If he goes through a stop sign, that could theoretically be a mistake. But if you're going around someone stopped in front of you, that's no accident. That's extremely dangerous and he deserves harsh consequences.

NEPTUNE, N.J. -- Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith remained hospitalized Monday, two days after he was ejected from his sport utility vehicle during a crash, officials said.

Smith, 21, hurt his left shoulder and got numerous scratches and bruises when the SUV he was driving went through a stop sign and overturned after colliding with a car at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Millstone Township, said state police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones.

He was recovering Monday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Smith's passenger, Andre Bell, remained in critical condition Monday, hospital spokesman John Shaffer said.

Nuggets spokesman Eric Sebastian said he did not know when Smith might be released.

"I think it's too early to say," Sebastian said. "From everything we hear, he's going to be OK."

Sebastian said he did not know if Smith would miss any training, but added, "We didn't hear anything that would indicate his career would be jeopardized in any way."

Bell, 21, of East Orange, suffered a severe head injury and is in a coma, Jones said. Neither Smith nor Bell was wearing seat belts and both were ejected from the SUV, he said.

Smith has been issued two traffic tickets for failure to stop at stop sign and improper passing, Jones said. Both carry fines, though the amount was not immediately available.

The two people in the car had only minor injuries.

Smith had been a star at Lakewood High School and St. Benedict's Prep in Newark before being the 18th overall pick of New Orleans in the 2004 NBA draft. He averaged 13.0 points in 63 games for Denver this past season.

Alot of people here are very immature. The kid did something stupid- really stupid. No one is denying that. But the "serves him right" attitude is disgusting. If this was, say, your cousin, I doubt you'd have the same attitude. I just hope his passenger is OK, and I hope he learns from this and becomes a better person because of it.

Of course they didn't deserve it. Don't try to portray the image I'm only concerned about Smith.

They deserved it less than him, he was at fault for a driving accident.

It's not like he did it on purpose because he's a punk, he's immature and made a driving mistake, a huge one.

Don't try that on me Gobb, it won't work.

Here you go kid...yeah a driving mistake. Dont ever talk back to me.

[I]Smith's driving record

According to New Jersey state records, J.R. Smith amassed 27 points and five suspensions of his license in less than a year. Mike Horan, a spokesman for the N.J.Motor Vehicle Commission, outlined the following history:
