View Full Version : Why was Durant practically wide open for the 2017 and 2018 finals?

We all know that Durant put up historic scoring numbers when you account for both production and efficiency, but why is that? What are the factors that allowed Durant to be dominant offensively?

Let's take a look into the two main reasons that could have led to Durant having offensively historic finals twice in a row:

1) Guarded by Bran
2) Curry double/triple teamed off and on ball every single play allowing Durant to be wide open every single play.

What other reasons could there have been for Durant to be essentially wide open for 2 finals straight? Anyone have input on this topic?

LeBron was guarded by elite defenders in KD, DPOY Green, and Iggy, yet, he dropped 34/10/10 on nearly 63% TS.

Why was that?

Also, why is Curry 4/44?

this is a myth by nerds

only 27.8% of KDs shot attempts were open. Kyrie was the only one close with 38.7% being close in 2017. He got less open looks a game than any of the stars and was contested on 15.6/21.6 FGA but shot a dumb 66.9 EFG% on contested shots (59% on contested 3s)

why did Steph have his only 2 good finals against the same team after KD joined:biggums: :biggums:

The team with 2 MVP's, a DPOY, an All-NBA player, and a FMVP off the bench? Yeah, they did. This happened the last two seasons and you should know it, unless you're 4 or mentally retarded.

Lebron shouldve guarded KD, the opposing teams SF.

Bron shriveled up and ran instead.

So, why did LeBron average 34/10/10 on 63%?

Brons defence is a good point. Even as a Bron fan Incan admit his defence has been bad last few years.
Curry was not double and tripple teamed off and on the ball all the time. This is one of the biggest lies ever about curry. Teams will double Steff off the screen sometimes because defenders arnt allowed fighting through anymore so he's either gonna get open for a shot or get switched onto a big slow defender that he can easily score on. It's smarter to just double him and make him give it up hopefully to green or another bad/ok shooter and hope they miss the open shot. Teams would never double team Steph if it wasn't for all the screens the set for him

Imagine thinking that doesnt completely disrupt a team's defense if there was anyone else on GSW that could score. Looks like Durant would be completely wide open with teams focusing on Curry like that.

Seems very reminiscent of 2017 and 2018 finals.

Because he conserved energy NOT playing defense

practically wide open? wut? can you show visual evidence of bron repeatedly leaving him wide open besides a slipping onto the floor gif?

Curry got doubled all the time. Way more than any other player on the court.

He was scared man. The same reason why he ran away from a shrew like barea in the finals too:lol

So wait. I thought Green/Iggy/KD played amazing defense on LeBron.....:confusedshrug:

Why do you even try to talk about basketball, fake coach? The only thing you're good for is defending MJ's dick size.

Thats easy, because of Lebrons non-existent defense :applause:

Lol. So an old, post-injury Iggy was able to slow down the GOAT even though he sat out the series before?

Elite defense against Lebron is:

-closing down direct lanes to the rim

- going underneath every screen and living with the results

- eventually, he'll start missing, proceed to worry about his FG%, and stop shooting altogether/only take fastbreak points.

There's nothing complex about abeat Lebron-ball. If there are no lanes to penetrate, he's EXTREMELY ineffective and unimpactful regardless of his stat-line.

I've been handling L's since I came here junior. Only a few minor bumps in what's otherwise a sea of win.

Bran stans make it easy rooting for a 6 times Finals loser.

No shit, you're an expect at handling L's considering the FACT that you get them more than anyone else in the history of mankind.
