Because for w.e reason black guys athletically/body type wise fill the niche phenotype that is most successful for playing ball. D also requires a certain level of grit, so possibly a lot of white guys lack that because they GENERALLY grow up in softer environments. But obviously there are exceptions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oAD5Rn21uU).

I'd say the average white guy is every bit as athletic than the average black guy. It's only until you reach the creme of the crop that you start to see a difference. I doubt we'll ever see a white Wilt Chamberlain/Shaq type lol. But most of the white boys who have made the NBA are likely tougher, more atheltic, and can kick your ass. No offense, mine too. And there are quite a few white guys who have made the NBA that are more athletic than this guy (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4a/Paul_Pierce_Shooting_Basketball.jpg/260px-Paul_Pierce_Shooting_Basketball.jpg)

Bird grew up in a racist area, but never had problems with black guys. He actually tried distancing himself from the whole great white hope thing because of how much respect he had. When growing up he'd go to the courts and there would be a bunch of black guys, him being the one white boy. But they never gave him problems, let him play, and probably taught him a lot. He took that to heart and knew what he heard around him was BS.

Makes me think of swimming, and powerlifting/strongman. Generally white guys fill that niche but there are exceptions. Other factors probably come into play also but it's kinda the same concept.

And then there's an exception (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATCXqQMBOYk)

I think eventually once more black guys go into the sport, and on average can handle the INSANELY expensive diet involved they will be more prominent. Possibly dominating the deadlift.

Here's a 195(?) pound white guy with long arms pulling 930 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QExFQeWvJJ8). Normally guys who are HUGE only pull that kind of weight.

The same reason why other white guys were offended when he would guard them. It didn't bother him because he felt the same way.
