What do you think? I recently started watching Jordan’s games from 96-98. And it looks like he slowed a bit. But he did close a lot of games with heart and will. He missed a lot of shots throughout the game though. But I remember Kobe going on streaks and making every single shot. I’m wondering if you think Kobe at his best was better than 2nd run MJ.

I don't know what you guys are looking at. I'm taking 2nd 3Peat MJ all day. You can have the regular season scoring binges. It doesn't matter if you give up a 3-1 lead in the first round and lose the deciding game by 31 points.
Give me the guy that will give you 38 and a W on the road in the swing game of the NBA Finals while dehydrated and sick.

The 05 suns were loaded. 06? No Amare or Joe Johnson.
Good team. Not exceptionally loaded.
Marion and role players behind a superstar is below the standard of most any team ever considered stacked.
Far as 06 Kobe vs Jordan?
Look at what AI, Lebron, arenas, Pierce, redd, and ray Allen put up scoring wise compared to the rest of their careers. Watch wade in the finals. It

Look at what AI, Lebron, arenas, Pierce, redd, and ray Allen put up scoring wise compared to the rest of their careers. Watch wade in the finals. It’s fairly clear the rule changes hit hard in 06. Put 1993 MJ in 2006 on a bad team and see how it goes. Pre prime raw Lebron did 31 a game and post prime AI did 33.
Kobe had a bit of a Harden 19 year with new applications of the rules giving a scoring boost.
Jordan missed 06 and 19. We can’t all acknowledge the easier league now compared to 06 and not act like perimeter scorers didn’t have a huge explosion in 06 relative to Jordan’s day.
06 Kobe would murder 19....90 Jordan would murder 06.
Not much arguing either of those points for anyone who saw the times in question.
for 2006 the suns were loaded even without amare
you're thinking of loaded in the sense of how it is today or was during other eras
back in the mid 00's the suns were an offensive juggernaut
people forget how great marion was.. he's a boarderline hall of famer
barbosa was one of the most underrated players in the nba at the time
bell was considered some big defensive stopper at the time
boris diaw was a basketball wizard
tim thomas was a do it all guy
eddie house is one of the best 3 point shooting role players ever
james jones was another sharp shooter from distance
all perfect complimentary pieces
and of course you had nash ( the best playmaker in the game at the time ) orchestrating all of it
put that up against kobe and bums and its amazing they won 3 games and came within a rebound of eliminating them

That point rarely seems to get raised in these discussions about 2006. Thank you. EVERYONE enjoyed peak raw scoring ppg years regardless of whether they were pre-prime( Lebron), prime( Kobe), or back end of prime(Iverson). You just mentioned guards, look at Dirk ( a perimeter oriented PF). Career high PPG in 2006( who beat his prior career high in 05 by half a point). It's too bad Tmac was already getting serious back issues by the 05 season, because 2003 Tmac would have shit all over the league offensively that year as well.

The 06 Suns were good. And Kobe did all one could expect taking it to 7 games. No problem with that...
Its just seems we have lost any way of describing a team that is good with anyone but loaded or stacked. People calling the Lakers stacked now....you were saying the Nuggets....it seems teams have two options....
Ass....or loaded.
We take everything to such extremes.
The 06 suns were a good team. Very good. Its true the standards have changed over the years but they were already changing then. It wasnt back to 01 when the Lakers having 2 superstars made them untouchable.
06? Quite a few teams had a #2 who could hang with the likes of Marion and then some solid role players behind them.
It was a legit good team. Kobe should not have won that series.
But they werent just stacked. Its kinda like the 15 and 16 Warriors. More a great team than a stacked lineup. Cant account for chemistry.

We calling sign and trades real trades now?
Joe just signed with atlanta. Diaw and 2 picks were compensation to let him get a bigger deal....much like how Moses malone was "traded" to the 76ers or Lebron was "traded" to the Heat.
Its a free agent signing with a deal worked out to help each team.

I'm gonna be honest, 2nd three-peat MJ was more dominant than Kobe, but Kobe had a way of elevating teammates that rivaled and sometimes exceeded Jordan's
I remember cheering against Kobe during that time, and it annoyed the hell out of me that he was in so many games with dogshit teammates - seriously, this guy gave Brian cook a career.. this guy, and medvedenko, and kwame, and smush, and so many stiffs to name - they all actually played pretty good and hit big shots all the time - I give Kobe and his sheer desire a lot of the credit for elevating these guys.. these guys did fear him - they feared not living up to his standard and played their ass off for him

That’s what weird because I don’t even remember Kobe missing a shot. I was rooting for the Warriors and me and my friends were at the bar watching Kobe single handidly beating us. My friend was in awe and asked, “Does he ever miss?” And when the Warriors lost, Kobe had 48 and my friend said at least he didn’t score 50.. since he did the previous 4 games.

you sound like a bran stan.. lebrons gonna end up with 10,000 more points than mj and a better all around line for his career.
you're not nearly as smart as you proclaim and i'm ashamed i gave it up to your guy out of respect... truthfully i've always had kareem #1
jordan was dog shit in highschool. a second banana for half his college days and never had the impact right out of the gate like kareem did. nor the longevity. nor the peak. kareem was a finals mvp in 1971 and again in 1985
thats 14 years of elite dominance at a finals mvp level... no other guy has more than half that sustained level of play on the highest stage
jordan missed the playoffs with the wizards at an age when kareem was complimenting and helping his team win titles
jordan may have had more finals mvps. but kareem wasn't a ball hog on a team built on defense where one guy could chuck 30 times without disrupting the rhythm
kareems sky hook is more unstoppable than any jordan maneuver
kareems rim protection is more valuable than jordan guarding a midget on the perimeter
you just got an enemy you old f@ggot.. pushing a 35 year old that could barely average 3 assists and had a 1.24 point per shot
kobes point per shot in 2006 was 1.30
in 2007 it was 1.38 ( near james hardens all time best this year )

Kobe got zero MVP's in 2006, while MJ swept the 3 MVP's in 1998, and had the goat clutch Finals of all time...
Ultimately, 98' MJ wins raw stats, advanced stats, accolades, clutch - and Kobe wins nothing except butchering a 3-1 lead.. only a fool would take 06' Kobe over 98' MJ.. Kobe is a 6'6" iverson chucker, while 98' MJ was blowing our minds with his 6th ring and iconic final shot.. it's not close

What does any of that mean?
I've probably never defended 3ball and wonder if he actually watched 90s ball, but this proves nothing. Well...other than seeing you lash out like a scorned female. :oldlol:
If players have equal numbers? You talk about their intangibles. It's never been ONE thing with Jordan.

1996 and 1997 mj were great.. way better than 98 mj
at least then i'd entertain the conversation
but 1996 + 1997 + 1998 MJ combined for 3 games of 50+ points
so no... they're not better than a guy that got 4 games of 50+ in 1 week
