You mean, you don't like watching 1 player pound the clock away at the top of the 3 point line while 4 guys stand in the corner waiting for the inevitable bullet bailout pass? I thought that was the new showtime?

Who's alt is this
I’m a Phoenix not an alt
And I’ve seen the 1.4 on 5 offensive set about 1,000 times I know what LA fans are experiencing.
*20 seconds, waves off screeners (usually PFs and centers) who then have no choice but to stand on the 3 line and pretend to be a catch and shoot sniper (which fools no one on defense now recognizing the play and staying in the paint)
*12 seconds gestures slashers/shooters to stand completely still farthest away in the corners as possible
*pounds ball 6 more times as clock ticks down to 4, 3, 2 (bull in china shop to the hoop)
(Defense had it happen twice before early in game and 100 times the past 10 years so knows it’s coming and just packs the paint)
*bail out bullet so fast and at such an odd angle the player nearly fumbles it hoists in a panic with no time to shoot. If it goes in it’s heralded as a great pass. If it bricks he has no help and trade talks begin.
Rinse and repeat.

I know you guys are laughing and I know LeBron fans are probably coming up with a thousand reasons why what I said is unfair untrue or whatever but it DOES happen it's his 1 criticism I have that I think is not even just a joke it's actually 100% fair and not just some thing to say to rile his fans up.
https://i.giphy.com/media/cEYFeDInNuHzdGMFjag/giphy.webp
Take a look at that play.
Wow amazing pass right? Going to end up on a career highlight of his for sure. As an individual skill to show off that he has. But here's the thing. Look at the 4 other guys. Standing around waiting for him to make a move while frozen in their place until the final moment. He did exactly what I said in that post breaking down one of his trademark habits. Pounding away the clock from 3 point land and bullrushing inside to one of those stationary "snipers". Because the play example I just posted worked, it gets praised by his fans and people obsessed over that play for days when it happened. But in 5 on 5 that's a really jarring play to look at especially when it doesn't connect. Coaches live with it because it's LeBron and if you criticize him you'll be fired because coaches these days are the easy scape goat. In fact, his roleplayers that GM's find are forced to make that shot or be put back on the trading block. If you're not a knock down spot up shooter you're just not a good fit for LeBron. That habit of his in my humble opinion is not good basketball. It's drive and kick taken to the extreme in a way that kills teammate energy because everyone is forced to stand around he doesn't like cutters cutting through while he dribbles for whatever reason.
I saw it first hand 1,000 times. I'm not going to sit here and say he's not a great player, he is. But nobody makes perfect decisions or has perfect habits and after watching it 1,000 times man am I sick of that play.

Keep in mind that he passed it to the GREATEST 3-point shooter of all time, as well. If the GOAT 3point shooter doesn't make that, it's not an assist, let alone a highlight.

There's literally nothing wrong with that pass, except for Haslem being in that game that late. Spo should've been fired for that alone.
And yeah, Bird is not as good a passer as LeBron, so...
I've been watching LeBron since he played at St Vincent. His games were on tv and my friends, who went to that school, tipped me off to start watching him when he was a few grades older than myself starting to gain traction state wide.

It's good that he passed it to someone arguably the greatest 3 point shooter of all time and I have no doubt he deliberately passed it to him and not anyone else.
The problem I have with that play is that the offense is completely stationary. He waves off screens, he waves off cutters. I'm convinced it's literally a part of the playbook on any team he plays. 4 stationary players and 1 iso player draining the clock down to 6 or less seconds just isn't good basketball in my opinion. Yes, it's in the hands of a player who can probably make more out of it than maybe anyone currently playing and most past players but still - that play just isn't good 5 on 5 basketball and when he doesn't connect on it it is infuriating. Seen it 1,000 times - when he was on teams I was rooting for. That's the play I had to almost look away when it formed and I think it's a habit of his that his coaches/players have to stay silent about for fear of not getting fired/traded (save for maybe a player tailor built for it like Ray Allen) because I'm not sure too many coaches or players actually like that play.

Great post. You'll fit in here, bro. There's a decent portion of people here that actually watch basketball. There is, however, another demographic of people in here that only watch the highlights and stat sheet. That's the problem you're running into here already. That play may not be sexy, but it's very effective. There were four wide open shooters there. The goal of modern offenses is to generate good looks at the three point line and that's exactly what happened there. And when defenders stay home on the shooters instead of sending help, LeBron finishes better than anyone ever.

Give me 5 guys moving over 5 guys standing still any time - the problem I have with the play is when it goes wrong there's no chance for recovery because the clock got drained in addition to nobody is ready to offensive rebound because they started with planted feet and finally the fact that there was stillness on the offense can kill the players energy and feel for the game
I've seen LeBron's team with LeBron included execute moving offense and it's outstanding. The Spurs and Warriors are some of the best at it. Like I said I guess it being left to him is as good a player as it can be left with but I still think it's not good basketball and tough to watch when it's your team doing it and they're down. I've grown to hate that play because of seeing that very scenario many times and it didn't work. Don't know what the percentages are but seeing it fail and knowing the other downsides etched it in my memory as a bad play

He goes to that when he's controlling the pace of the game, trying to slow it down and limit possessions, especially as you describe running the clock down. If he's not trying to control the pace, he'll attack early in the clock with plenty of time to do something after the pass. And you overstate him waiving away screener especially as he ages. He's tending to rely more and more on screeners to be able to get by his man.
The coaching under Lue was awful for developing an offense and Wakton doesn't look much better. That pushes him toward that since there isn't an offense to run other than play faster. Spoelstra had more of a system and you didn't see as much of that then.

Blatt wasn't ready for the big time and was afraid of the stars while Lue wasn't afraid to call them out when they screwed up. The role players didn't like Blatt and wanted him gone. That wasn't about LeBron wanting his guy.
And agreed about Lue not being a real [head] coach. Assistant was a good spot for him.

Rockets now are ranked 2nd in offensive rating, that's without CP3.
