Dude was an overrated high usage chucker, dude gets his dick sucked so hard, for doing nothing but being high-usage. Dude was Westbrook before Westbrook. He's not even top 100 OAT
And fk off with that he changed the "culture" bs, we're talking basketball ball not trashy fashion and cheap tattoos

To be fair tho, in the 2001 ECF, AI played like shit. If his teammates didn't step up in that series, there's no way he would've advanced and instead we would've seen Ray Allen in that 2001 finals

Having been born in about 1998 your opinion of AI when you were 3, in a league you never saw, vs defenses you have no knowledge of, run by coaches you never heard of who slowed the game down because of several other coaches you never saw run a team, with teammates who are just numbers on basketball reference to you mean less than nothing.

Basketball is a team game, he was out here playing streetball. Kyrie right now at 26, is better than AI ever was. Kyrie handles are tighter, better passer, scorer, shooter, at least tries on defence and is clutch af

participation award generation strikes again
Tell us moar about about his "efficiency/usage %'s" compare vs modern players of this completely different touchless matador defense / moving offensive screen / 3 steps on the gather era
AI was getting hammered on his drives and at 150lbs had 6-5 200+ guys able to physically touch him and dictate his movements with contact - what a concept
Play a physical game of basketball and share your efficiency with us then play a game where no touching is allowed. Report back to us what you learned.

the problem is people value aesthetics over value... numbers, crossovers, dunks... you name it. AI had ultimate aesthetic value. But he was a negative asset if you wanted to win a championship or build a dynasty. That is what it is, but people are attached to their emotions and players, thats fine. its also fine to speak the truth.

Two totally different styles but both had their flaws. I’m comparing the hype they receive because of their runs through the weakest conference in history and the east coast bias. It’s the same for both. Overrated as ****. Kidd had similar talent around him in PHX and didn’t do shit.

I didn't read anything but the thread title. I think during his peak, he was massively overrated. There is no way on earth he was better than Paul Pierce at that time. I think he ended up getting a bit too much negative attention for his later career stuff, which probably balanced things out a bit overall.
If people put him in their top 25 of all time, I think that is definitely too high and would say those people are overrating him currently. But I believe legacy/impact on the sport/narrative plays a big part in all time great rankings and despite being a worse player than Paul Pierce, he has a greater legacy and wouldn't mind seeing him ranked ahead of Pierce on lists. He'd probably rank higher on mine because of it. But he wasn't better. And neither should be in the top 35.

Kidd was actually good though, dude could lead teams to championships. The nets were trash before he joined, took them to the finals twice in a row. Dude was a baller, he was a point God, but his teams mates sucked. AI on the other hand was just straight mediocre, he was a midget with a greenlight

He was perfect mentally..in terms of his decision making playing basketball. His IQ. He wasnt an iso guy, rather a team guy.
Sagging? Kidd is top 10 in 3 pt field goals made and played that role on a title winning team that won against all odds. And hit clutch 3's to seal the ring. Iverson went to a contender team, put up more than his usual numbers, and got crushed. And ultimately ran out of the league in old age while kidd was a contributer and assist leader on a championship team.
Dont compare the two when it comes to basketball.:confusedshrug:
Their legacies are very comparable. Both were hyped and overrated do to their success in the weakest conference of all time. Point blank period end of discussion.

No matter what anyone says, born 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, whatever.
AI is still the second greatest scorer in NBA history and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Playoffs, we talking about playoffs.
Should have made that more clear.
I'm a few red wines and a couple whiskeys down.

Bullshit nothing.
You need to spend more time studying NBA history if you think he was a better scorer than either Wilt or Jordan and that

Playoffs, son.
I mean playoff scoring.
He is second to only Jordan.
Baylor?

Basketball is a team game, he was out here playing streetball. Kyrie right now at 26, is better than AI ever was. Kyrie handles are tighter, better passer, scorer, shooter, at least tries on defence and is clutch af
AI was a better scorer, passer, and defender than kyrie

AI was a product of his era, paved the way for all the high scoring PGs we see today
All that needs to be said is that AI averaged 33 ppg on 54 TS% despite not having a consistent 3 (more of an era thing) and being past his best years. Can you imagine prime AI in today's NBA? I like Kyrie but AI was easily better, this is a guard's league whereas AI played in a big/wing (more big) dominated era.
Defense is being played and there are great defenders in today's NBA (George, Giannis, Gobert, Kawhi, etc.) but the way the 3 ball is being used + modern NBA philosophy (basically, try to do what the Warriors are doing) he would have easy drives to the hoop he didn't have even right after handchecking was removed
I have my doubts building around AI due largely to his size, but he was a truly great player. In my top 35
You're young so you're looking at things in a vacuum, little me did the same thing, but once the league shifts into a brand new era you'll start to see why context is so important.
