Anyone else got clips of their shot, or some game tape? Shot of them dunking? I know some of you posters from way back even played college ball would be dope to see some of that. Jump shot, a dribble move, anything u got share it here - good place to talk skill building and practice habits, etc for those that still play too

So even if you don't want to add to the footage archive how many of you posters play? / or if retired from playing how far did you take playing?
I never played until I was in my early 20's. So best I've done is rec basketball. Only in the past year or so after I started practicing as often as possible did I really start to make what I consider a solid contribution to the team in half-court sets - as a cutter. Working on all facets of my game not just that but that's just where my niche is right now.
Surely on a basketball forum quite a few of you actually played basketball with some seriousness I would imagine?

This last session is now over so I put up a few more clips in the mix
Anyone who saw my old vids from years ago should recognize I got better - but obviously still a ways to go. There's only one made jumper there but my camera didn't work a game I made 3 jump shots. I usually just don't look for opportunities to take jump shots all my movement is usually towards the hoop but that's for the better until I iron out catching and shooting. I feel like off the dribble I'm accurate with my shot but I rarely handle the ball as I'm still not an effective dribbler under pressure (we've got a guy who's pretty much our ball handler 80% of possessions) so that hasn't come together as a tool I use in games yet and I don't suspect it will any time soon.
My objectives this year are to really practice ball handling even if I won't be handling much during games but also shooting off the catch and that's a skill I think I will be able to help the team with more if I can get it down. I don't know why, but my touch just isn't great off the catch I've got two teammates who never practice and they're currently better at it than I am and I've practiced it for the past year or more. Especially at 3 point range I feel like my legs don't sync well with my upper half on 3 point jump shots from a stand still. I practiced mid range the entire past year this year I will practice from 3 range to try to work that out.
Anyways ISH's criticisms from years ago helped me work on the first part of my game that has come together which was taking advantage of my potential first step and quickness - in the form of cuts to the hoop. Next phase is to be a better shooter - tips are welcome.
Currently I try to do drills like 10 made baseline jumpers on each side from a stand still, then on the elbows a 1-dribble to the right 10 makes, then switch sides and do it going left, then free throws. All of this is mid range. I don't have a system down to get better at catching and shooting or 3 point shooting at the moment but I'm open to ideas - I can't depend on other people to practice so if there's a good solo drill to simulate or improve catch and shoot I'd def like to hear that

Suggestion for you is to experiment with a lower center of gravity. Like practice getting down in frog position and dribbling. You seem to run a bit too stiff and upright, like running in soccer or something. It's easier to make quick changes of direction of a lower stance.
Can't really tell anything about your shot, since you seem to drive mostly.

Very good tip about the COG thank you this is the kind of stuff I don’t even think about unless someone points it out
I will try to get a vid up of my shooting practice routine and maybe then someone can break down what needs retooled on my outside shot

I still like to err on no more than 3 dribbles before I shoot or pass. After editing these recent games my post-game also looks wretched to my eyes but I never used to even attempt shots with my back to the basket until this summer, but since my layup drills had my touch dialed in around the hoop the opportunities now show up organically and the little jump hook shots went in dependably so I don't mind how ugly it looks for now. I may work on footwork in the post down the road to expand on it or sharpen it up. We've got a 6-6 245 guy for most of that work though. Usually I just cut, its a quick post at most if my back is to the basket.
My team's primary ball handler hates picks while he has the ball, he wants us to always pick or run off of picks off the ball so I have zero plays as a roll man nor do I get picks set for me when handling. I have the timing for it, I love it in pickup games but it's just not going to happen on my current team.
Anyways y'all feel free to pick apart quirks you see or areas in dire need of attention, as I mentioned before I've progressed and practiced certain things thanks to critiques I've gotten here before over the years. If I get no feedback my next few weeks will be spent doing skill building drills to improve passing and shooting the ball off the dribble without gathering, and ball handling under defensive pressure

Thats 10 minutes of clips broken down by play-type and it's actually a pretty good representation of my repertoire of shot types I practice and use during games regularly, at least within the context of that team. As I've said before nobody uses picks on-ball on that team so no pick and roll situations come up.

You are probably a sprint runner. By the way me and my team are going to start training this coming wednesday and thursday. We are going to have a suicide drills, and shooting drills before we play 5 on 5.

Hell ya and post more vids man, my team starts another session on Friday. I ran hurdles and and did the long jump back in the day - I also rock climb and mountain bike. Basketball is my favorite sport though, and I do various drills too when I practice or warm up, I think they help

Idk if my advice is worth anything but I used to tape my ankle if I sprained it to immobilize/prevent it from spraining again at least for a long time after the sprain. You can look up how to tape for sprained ankles. When you aren't playing spell the alphabet in the air with your toes - to help strengthen / recover the damaged areas. If the sprain is fresh, within a few days, use the RICE technique (Rest Ice Compression Elevation). Idk if my advice is worth anything but I used to tape my ankle if I sprained it to immobilize/prevent it from spraining again at least for a long time after the sprain. You can look up how to tape for sprained ankles. When you aren't playing spell the alphabet in the air with your toes - to help strengthen / recover the damaged areas. If the sprain is fresh, within a few days, use the RICE technique (Rest Ice Compression Elevation). After that start physical therapy things like the alphabet thing and keep it taped and isolated if you play on it

Got into an argument with a high school coach. I called him out for being a ballhog. He was our opponent. He was bricking his shots. I think he went 0/8. Everytime he touches the ball he just went straight into the basket. He's also 0 out of 3 from rainbow country. I told him that's why his team was 1-7 in the basketball tournament he coached. He never taught his players how to pass the ball.

Back when I was 13 in 2000. My dad bought me a camcorder, but it was stolen in our classroom during our PE. Kids are very lucky today they have modern cell phone.

By the way filipino brand of basketball is more about running a fast break. Before i play a game I do some stretching and suicide drills. Everyone loves to run. And shoot some 3 pointers.

Retired a good 5 years from pickup ball but when I came back everyone seemed to have developed a 3 point shot even the older dudes who never had a decent shot to begin with. Was also amazed how every kid was side stepping like crazy on fastbreaks, just forcing the move even if they didnt have to at times lol. I guess thats the influence of modern basketball for you.

Yes, it's now mandatory for every players to developed a 3 points shot. Back in the day layups,midranges and tear drop shot were the more popular moves. The 3 pointers was called an inefficient shot back in the day. Now even centers are attempting it.

Last game we had was in mid march until somebody snitched on us for apparently having too much fun playing ball despite the pandemic and they then locked the rims. Race to 100. It's like a league. 3 points are counted as 3 points, midrange layups, or even dunks are counted as 2 points. We even have 2 referees which are players also
The owner of the basketball gym that we are playing have a stats sheets. and those guys who are not playing in the court are counting it.

I do practice and take 3s but my pursuit has always been just to become as good as I can be to try and help my team win, not necessarily trying to mimic any style of play. 3s do help for sure, when I’m hitting the 3 it opens me up for drives better because I can then blow by an overplay

The fact that you can only give a 1st grade answer like "only D1 and up isn't a scrub" says it all. When you play for real you end up playing against all sorts of players - former collegiate or pros from overseas. I actually know my capabilities playing "D1 and up only".. Nobody at their level even uses the word scrub unless *maybe* they're on the court trash talking in the heat of the game. They don't talk trash pointlessly when they aren't playing. I've only played a few people with an attitude like yours - talking trash when they weren't playing - and boy did they SUCK.

We didn't, but 2/3rds of the clips are from prior to the pandemic though we did start playing again recently - simply mask wearing up until the game, temperature checked, and signing waivers. Probably not a good look globally that rec basketball has started back up in certain parts of the U.S. but it has lol
I appreciate that compliment man, Ive worked really hard to get better in recent years. I don't know what level I'd be but when I play college players especially my size I'm still lacking in certain areas like consistency on my 3's, and a better handle for more on-ball moves and control. I will keep practicing those things though!

2 years ago a player from the other team tried to injured my knee. He kept on hitting my knees with his knees. In the 4th quarter I bulldozed him, and he fell on the court. I picked him up, and told him to never play dirty on me again. We won the game, and I scored 29 points.

I can't remember but I recall you might've said 5-10 before? I'm 5-11 barefoot, 160-165. I am not a great ball handler though I'll be working on that between sessions as time goes by so I guess I play 2 guard or SF most of the time.

The poster Shogun I think is 6-8 - posted in a thread about fitness in OTCL. I'm sure most people either lie or don't know their height though. I know my height and armspan just because I was curious. My armspan is anywhere from 5-11.5 to 6-0 depending on how uncomfortably I stretch it lol. Wish it was more both for basketball and rock climbing

Only clips I have is me playing as an old dude which would be too embarassing to post not that I was a good player when I was younger. Played like Kirilenko without the offense and was a decent athlete atleast for the level of competition I played in.

I wouldnt know because I dont live anywhere near there lol. Just loved the Pacers in the 90s when everyone was supporting mainstream teams and I just stuck with it.

I now shoot more midrange than 3 pointers because midrange is a more efficient shot during the playoffs and semi finals.

hate to say this , but in the day when I was playing , at 5'10" dunking on a 9'8" rim was standard.

Team just switched to a new name so I collected my clips of the past few seasons and maybe in the future I can do a video where two stages of my 'playing career' can be compared. On STS I feel like I was hitting my stride of piecing the game together intellectually, while my body is still athletic enough to make an impact purely from things like speed or quickness. I'm still learning and practicing new moves and skillsets but I'm 34 now so it will be interesting to see how I keep playing if I did another one of these in a few years.
Also I know a lot of my movements are still mechanical or wrong in some play-types or situations. But I'll reiterate again I never played until I was 23 and never took the time to practice until late 20's so I'm as late a developer as it probably gets but I enjoy playing so much I want to see how good I can get anyways. Feel free to offer suggestions on errors, currently I'm leaning hard on practicing 3 point shooting (for improved consistency / bigger outside threat) and trying to crack open a few new dribbling moves and a smoother handle as when I watch these clips that's what I notice is missing the most to reach the next level.

Planning to buy some knee pads. I tore my left ACL back in 2007 when I was 21 in our summer league. I landed awkwardly when I was doing a tap board layup in the other rim. And that's the reason why I made an account in this forum cause it took me 3 years to play basketball again. I started to play again in 2010. And rejoined the league in 2012
