High dribble was a trend started by Earl Monroe in the late 60s to late 70s and because he was smooth af with it there was a period of emulating him in particular Magic dribbled a lot like Earl

Other than that trend the only thing about 80s ball handling that differs is a few tweaks on the rules vs today. 80s was much more lenient than 60s with the whole hesitation dribble but especially after the recent reinterpretation of the gather step in 2019 you can tell the hesitations still weren

Because if they dribbled like the players do today then they would be called for travelling and carrying on every single possession. Rules were actually enforced back then but someone like Manny98 wouldn't know that.

Do you really think people 30 years ago were unable to dribble like people do now? They were able. It was not allowed.

Evolution is a very slow process. People having lived a thousand years ago were on average shorter but not by any means less capable athletically. 30 years ago? Come on.

Do people really think evolution of the game is due to biological evolution?

Evolution of the game is not evolution. It is change of the game. The very second we enforce 80s rules, players' games will change. They will resemble 80's players.

There are some techniques and skills that took some time to develop. You look at past players and try to pick up their moves. It might have taken them years to figure out something that worked. But a kid gets to see the finished product and can just try to add it to their skillset in early development. It's a tremendous advantage. Though, I will say that when it comes to ball handling a lot of it has to do with the rules.
