How many times have we seen a #1 seed lose to a #8 seed in NBA history?
It is the ultimate failure of all failures and I was curious to see how many times it has happened. I distinctly remember when the Spurs were a #1 seed and lost to the #8 seed Grizzlies. The crazy part is, prior to that playoff series the Memphis Grizzlies actually hadn't even won a single playoff game, let alone an entire series consisting of an 8 to 1 seeding disparity. But has this ever happened before that?
List of #1 seed losing to #8 seed in 1st round when #8 seed had ZERO prior playoff wins
-Tim Duncan
Has anyone else achieved the ultimate failure?

Dallas losing to Golden State was an even bigger shock at the time.
Dirk & Co were the laughing stock of the league for a little while. But he managed to redeem himself when he shocked the world by slapping his robust, one eyed German monster down the throats of Miami's three headed bitch crew.

That's not the biggest choke of all time.
1994 Sonics (63W) losing to Deke's Nuggets when they were up 2-0 in a best of 5 is by far the greatest 1 vs 8th seed upset.

And that probably cost them a championship, since they had the Rockets number in the mid 90s. I remember being pissed as hell after that choke job. Rivals anything the Chiefs have done in the playoffs.

Knicks beat the Heat as the 8th seed... they maximized their potential and made the finals. But ran into Duncan and Pop :(

Lebron has had worse failures
How did Lebron James lose to a Career Loser in Dwight Howard with HCA while having a 4x DPOY on his squad.

Or why was Lebronze on multiple USA teams that led teams to bronze medals?
And embarrass the United States of America twice with bronze medals?

I believe this was the first 8-1 upset the league had seen, yeah?
The clip of Mutombo on the floor after the final game is one of the iconic moments in league history.

a 37 year old one that he needed a Ray Allen clutch shot to even win the series and come back in. The other times he was smoked by me.

I agree completely. The 1994 Sonics were elite and would have won the championship.
What people also forget is that in the next round, the Nuggets were 3-0 down to Utah and then came back to 3-3 before losing game 7.
Just imagine if the 1994 Nuggets not only were the first #8 seed to be a #1 seed, but also the first NBA team to come back from 3-0 to win a playoff series, something that has never happened in NBA history, even today.

Nope. LeBron actually won FMVP versus Duncan, proof he was carrying his team. Meanwhile Duncan was carried by his teammates.

Nope Lebron was carried as he had to switch teams in order to win and join a proven champion. Duncan created a franchise and turned guys into stars. Manu and Parker were late 1st round picks or even 2nd round.

Lebron had 18, 17, and 18 points in the first 3 games, so he needed ray to force game 7
Won the series with 25 on 44.7%
Not dominant
Barely won despite juggernaut supporting talent

Facts:
Regular Season
MJ. 85-87' (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html#1985-1987-sum:per_game):. 31.7 ppg.. 2.0 oreb.. 3.6 dreb.. 5.0 apg.. 2.6 spg.. 1.2 bpg.. 57.1 ts.. 27.8 PER
LBJ 06-08' (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jamesle01.html#2006-2008-sum:per_game):. 27.2 ppg.. 1.2 oreb.. 5.9 dreb.. 7.1 apg.. 1.4 spg.. 1.0 bpg.. 56.3 ts.. 27.2 PER..
^^^Yet MJ's teams only got the 8 seed, while lebron got the 2 seed and a couple 4 seeds.
And MJ's stats are deflated by his injured 86' season (18 games at 25 mpg)
Playoffs
MJ. 85-87' (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html#1985-1987-sum:playoffs_per_game):. 35.5 ppg.. 1.9 oreb.. 4.4 dreb.. 6.9 apg.. 2.4 spg.. 1.5 bpg.. 56.0 ts.. 27.4 PER
LBJ 06-08' (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jamesle01.html#2006-2008-sum:playoffs_per_game):. 27.5 ppg.. 1.4 oreb.. 6.6 dreb.. 7.3 apg.. 1.6 spg.. 0.8 bpg.. 53.1 ts.. 23.8 PER..
^^^Yet MJ lost in the 1st round and Lebron made Finals... :lebronamazed:... :lebronamazed:
Obviously, lebron's teams made up his statistical deficit to MJ with a better cast, as one would expect from a 2 seed versus an 8 seed. . MJ's 8 seeds compare better with lebron's 9 seeds from 05'

Do you really have to spam your LeBron/Jordan bullshit in every single thread, even in a series that literally had nothing to do with them :lol

You love that gif, but must suck to know your favorite player is a gif or 2 away from having a Jerry West Finals record
Since he won 2 Finals by one possession/bounce of the ball, we literally don't know if he's actually worthy of 3 rings, or whether he's really a 1 ring bum..
It's just another reason we have to lower his expectation compared to MJ - MJ never went to 7 games in the championship, so his 6 rings are legit, whereas lebron might be Jerry west

I posted stats showing that 06-08' lebron achieved 2-4 seeds and deep playoff runs with 27/7/7, while 85-87' MJ achieved 8 seeds and 1-9 with 36/6/7, yet you call it "bullshit"...
Typical lebron stan denying the facts.... and Corporation is simply trying to point out that technically, MJ could've won his 8 vs 1 matchup

Better than getting destroyed in the first round.

You are straight up delusional :oldlol: Jordan was literally not even alluded to in the entire OP, it's CLEARLY about Duncan losing in the first round to an 8 seed. The fact you were actually able to spin this thread in your mind to be about Jordan is truly amazing

Better than getting destroyed in the first round.
Except MJ has a lot more rings than Lebron, so lebron got knocked out early much more than MJ
lol at comparing 8 seeds in the 1st round to lebron's 1 seeds in the Finals, and then saying "see lebron's better"... I could compare MJ's rings to lebron's lottery teams in 04/05 and say the same thing.. or lebron's 3 exits in the 2nd round, and 6 in the Finals
MJ won a lot more than Lebron, so your logic is that of a retard.. and lebron achieved high seeds and deep runs with FAR worse production than MJ, which proves his wasn't carrying MJ's jock, let alone his team
Rings as the best player on their teams
LeBron-3
MJ-0
