NBA ratings down a whopping 22 percent on TNT, per @thebiglead. Also down on ESPN and local broadcast numbers pretty bad in most cities. Yet website numbers up. So do you like reading about league more than watching?

People watching the game on paper these days and think they know what they're talking about because "VORP!! BPM!!!".

Amazing how the ratings are PLUMMETING after Kobe retired

The ratings have been dropping for multiple leagues, NBA, MLB, NHL, only the powerhouse NFL has managed to maintain ratings. I think it's more so due to people dropping cable at a substantial rate

Article doesn't mention people watching through league pass on anything but a TV...
TV ratings? Who cares?

Today's game is a gimmicky 3-point contest - a form of hot potato until someone is open enough for a three

That isn't basketball and some people have started to notice:

And it's funny because old timers have always said MJ would average 40 easily, and now a fat, slow ball-dominator with a couple pet moves is doing just that

Interesting point that I hadn't considered, but wouldn't the NFL be impacted similarly for that reason?

So salty that a 6'5" shooting guard is ripping the league apart

Wonder what a 6'6" one would do that could jog up to the FT line and double-pump..

Cable? People aren’t even watching the local games that can be picked up without cable and through their standard antenna. :lol
What? Kings/Giants game sure as hell can't be picked up on Antenna, it's on NBC sports California. Cavs are FOX SPORTS OHIO.

Yeah, I don't know any non-NFL teams who play on local broadcast stations. They all have cable sports networks they play on

Yep, Fox Sports Ohio can't be picked up on basic, it's a cable channel. They play all the Cavs even when they're national

Like others said it has to do with popularity of cheap Netflix/Hulu/Amazon and people cancelling atrocious cable bills. That simple

NBA was at another all time high last year. They also jumped significantly higher after 2016 season as well.

After dipping last season, the NBA’s average television viewership rose to a four-year high in 2017-18.

For the regular season, which ended earlier this month, Nielsen-measured average total viewers for national telecasts of NBA games was up 8% from 2016-17 at 1.28 million. That’s across the league’s four television-network partners — ABC, ESPN, NBA TV, TNT — and the highest average since the NBA’s 2013-14 season.

NFL is shown by Fox, NBC, and CBS. Most basic cable antennas pick these up.

ESPN and TNT are different.

I'm surprised the NBA hasn't cashed in on stats dorks with a D&D like RPG card game.

They could make some cool anime too. When the big 3 were at the celtics I imagined a cartoon being made except instead of just playing basketball by day they fought crime by night.

Its not even the 3 pointers its the lack of defense. I have no desire to watch teams give up open 3 point shots and layups all freaking game long. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who feels the same way. The only games I like watching are OKC, Celtics, Nets, because I know they are going to try hard on defense.
