For me, this is it. The imagery, storytelling, music, creativity and overall cinematography are just about as good as it's ever going to get. The acting was superb as well with the exception of the doofus who created the smiley t-shirt... clearly way overacted that part.

From a recent movie, love how the scene is all in one shot.

Interesting. I meant to see that in theaters but never did. Will have to check it out.

Of course, when I think of continuous takes, I only think of one scene in cinema history...

Easily one of the most impressive ever. It took them half a day and eight takes total.

On that goodfellas note, I always enjoyed Jimmy Conway’s introduction. “Jimmy loved to steal” :oldlol:

Gotta go with a classic. IMO the greatest on screen performance in cinema, bar none.

I still shed a tear when watching it sometimes

I like the crescendo of awfulness at the end of Requiem for a Dream... when that eerie theme music just keeps getting louder and louder, and you keep jumping from Marion at the orgy, over to Tyrone in prison, over to Sarah in the hospital with the ECT, over to Harry about to lose his arm. Everything is just in this downward spiral freefall of a nightmare, and it's done so well.

Same movie - the scene where Harry goes to visit Sarah to tell her he bought her the TV, only to find out she's on the diet pills. Her acting in that scene is some of the most brilliant work I've ever seen. That entire role was virtuoso imo.

A lot of scenes from Tarantino movies deserve mention. Inglorious Basterds opening scene where Landa is in that dairy farmer's house... the end of Pulp Fiction when Jules has the sit-down standoff... probably more if I took the time to think about it.

always chuckle at the 'couldn't have been more than 28 or 29 at the time' line .. also goodfellas = goat soundtrack .. never talked about but it's awesome .. for us oldies lovers anyways

I don't run into many people who have seen Cloud Atlas, and it's a shame.

https://youtu.be/Y1P4kkWDmrw is a good one.

This might be the best scene in the movie simply because Amy Schumer isn't in it

Sorry, but it's a long, boring, and confusing movie with no substance :/

there are many imo.

the attack scene on the beach in dundirk is masterful story telling with just excellent visuals and very minimal sound from the clock ticking, the movie has almost no dialogue. nolan is a genius.

then there are movies with masterful scores, less than zero comes to mind (not a top movie by any means, but the film score is great) - thomas newman produced some fantastic scores: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQri3vJDkE4 i could link a lot of other scenes from the film, the score is produced to elicit the feelings accordingly, that's what makes me love this film's score so much. and the actress who played blair was so fine https://i.postimg.cc/jjLGQxpG/lawd.png

the long unbroken shot at the end of Children of Men, where Clive Owen is going into war zone to retrieve the mother & the baby

the whole monologue of Kevin Costner at the end of the trial in JFK

the mexican standoff bar shootout in Inglorious Basterds

the intense firecracker scene in Boogie Nights

the cast impromptu singing in Magnolia

the milkshake speech in There Will Be Blood

the druglord's family dinner in Sicario

That movie is wild. I’ve rewatched it quite a few times and it’s always good. I can never get over the main bad guy. He is some middle aged balding white guy with glasses and is named Clarence. I’m pretty sure he plays the dad of that 70s show. Whenever I see him I think of him in robocop being a total psycho. :lol
