There is no best guitar. The Les Paul and Strat are completely different in terms of what kind of tone they can produce.

I mean, all it takes is for you to be someone who loves using the whammy bar. Then a Les Paul would not come close to your weapon of choice.

I personally don't like playing LP's. The heavier body is not as comfortable, there's no whammy, and I like the brightness of single coil pickups.

I'd take an HSS American made fender over any version of the Les Paul.

Having said that, as others have pointed out, both are entirely different guitars with different tones. Some prefer brighter tones that single coils produce and some prefer the darker tone Les Paul produce. There is no better guitar, just preference. I own a strat and an LP and I prefer the strat, its more versatile and more comfortable to play. Besides, LPs are waaay overpriced, only a sucker shells out thousands of bucks to buy a guitar, especially if you're not a pro musician, besides, the LP isn't even Gibson's best guitar, the SG is :facepalm

I know it's an Epiphone and they're no replicas. Some are pretty decent compared to Gibsons. I own both and my go to atm is an Epiphone with hot Gibson pick ups.

Epiphones are trash IMO, I personally never owned one but a bandmate of mine had Epis and I tried them out and they felt, played and sounded like crap.

I've owned both Mexican and American Strats and the Mexican Strat is a well made guitar for the money. Upgrade on the electronics and you have a guitar that isn't that far off from an American made Strat.

I have a mexican J-bass that sounds killer but has terrible build quality. Neck has some dead spots and the neck pocket gaps are gigantic. Granted i only paid 300 bucks for the thing and it's in need of some professional TLC, but like you said, for the money can't go wrong.

Supposedly the major difference between american and mexican fenders is the best wood blanks get sent to the american factory and the not so nice ones get sent everywhere else.

I always found LPs to be just heavy and clunky. I like the strats equipped with the humbucker. Great thick tone on a light comfortable guitar.

Epiphones were made in Korea and the special ones are still made in Indonesia. Still no USA, but the build quality is pretty good. After all it's the same CNC template. There's no handcrafting involved in the stock USA Gibsons either.

It's true that the China ones are junk, but it's the bottom of the barrel, the Squier affinity of Gibsons. The Korea and Indonesiamodels definiately are VM Squiers to mexican Fenders in terms of quality and tone(if you like the Gibson tone that is).

Source: I own a chinese Nikki Sixx Thunderbird, a Korean Pro Thunderbird, an indonesian Classic Pro(the one with the Gibson PUs) and a Gibson annivesary model, an Korean Epiphone LP with Custom PUs and my guitarist owns a US Les Paul.

Played Fender J, P, Ibanez Soundgear, Squier P VM.
Kept an Squier affinity J and the Ibby for a different tone. The Nikk Sixx kills the J in terms of build quality even, but it's a 400

I once played a bandmate's Les Paul Custom because my Strat was needing some rewiring and even though I loved the thicker tone, my shoulder hurt the next day. The Les Paul I own has weight relief, don't care for the heavy ones and thats why my fave Gibson is the SG.

Since we are mentioning what guitars we own, I've had quite a bit of guitars, Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Cort, Yamaha, Kramer, Jackson etc.

My all time fave is my MIM Fender Stratocaster 50s Reissue, only cost me 300 bucks but I upgraded the pickups, inside wiring and pickguard. The pickups are really hot, could even play metal on it and I love the 2 position tone, very Mark Knopfler from Sultans of Swing sounding tone. I also own an SG Standard and a Les Paul Traditional. Looking to add a fat Strat or switch the pickups for Seymour Duncan Hot Rail mini hummies. Wanna add a Telly too, love the fat bluesy sound the neck pickup gives...
