and dont say the reason is "because ratings are down across the board".NFL ratings have been up this season from last year all the way up til this superbowl.
But 90s purist will have you believe that the golden age of sports was during this "great defensive handchecking era" NBA wise....
Ratings would plummet just like the spurs vs pistons finals that went 7.The game is better with the rules how they are now as a business....Nobody wants to see the grizzlies in the finals scoring 85 ppg
We want to see the warriors we want to see harden we want to exciting offensive basketball.DEAL WITH IT

These are two of the highest scoring teams in the league. Are you really suggesting ratings were down because people anticipated a low-scoring game and didn

People aren't interested in defenses, they are in legends overcoming them.

Ticket prices were way down from last year as well. It was simply a very unappealing matchup. People are tired of seeing New Orleans in the Super Bowl every year, and people in the LA area don't really care about the NFL. And yeah, it was a boring game. Not because it was a defensive battle, but because there just weren't very many exciting plays on either side of the ball. Edelman won the MVP but I can't think of any play he made where I went "Wow!"

- No pushable angles or storylines.
- Patriot boycott
- Patriot association to political right
- LA "new" franchise. Likely boycotted by St.Louis and Missouri
- Chiefs and Saints controversial losses
Plenty of (lack of) storylines that didn't favor this game
Chiefs v Saints would have killed it. Better product on the field as well

Because watching other people play a sport doesn't make a lot of sense.

The ratings were low because everyone knew the Pats were gonna win again.
