Too early to call the Kristaps trade a win...

And, Mavs now have to land someone big in free agency this summer...that is why they made this move.

Kristaps has a low cap hold and Mavs can now carve out max cap room pretty easily if need be.

That is the final piece of all of this. Can the Mavs finally land someone in free agency?

We have a great coach...Luka / Kristaps...and some under-rated role players...and an owner willing to spend in a major city.

Is that enough to finally land a star or superstar level player? I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it.

And, of course...if somehow the Mavs hit that 10% chance and jump into the top 4....this could get crazy fun.

All the players Dallas lost were not relevant going forward...and I'm not even a huge fan of the Kristaps trade, but the players we lost meant nothing long term.

We have Luka / Kristaps...and some solid role players like Maxi / DFS / Brunson...

Hardaway is at least an average player...and Justin Jackson has potential....Powell, if he stays, is a clear rotation player in the league...and Barea is certainly a solid bench player, but we'll see what happens with him.

And, we have max cap space this summer.

We didn't "gut" anything in terms of players...we did, gamble on Kristaps and it remains to be seen if that was worth it...

But, if the Mavs get a star level player this summer...this team is going to be way better than people realize because that "depth" that everyone claims isn't there....actually will be if the Mavs bring everyone they need to back.

Again, I'm not even a fan of the Kristaps trade to be honest...but I love this Barnes trade...

But, two quality role players on this team that are plus defenders, for example...and it could be a 50 plus win team next year.

Harrison Barnes was a true professional handling how Luka came in and stole the spotlight, unlike Wes+DSJ+DAJ. Those 3 other guys got SHIPPED. Barnes showed a lot of maturity and professionalism instead. Teams have noticed. He's a good piece as a 3rd or 4th option team trying to be a contender.

All comes down to this...can Cuban finally get a player in free agency to choose Dallas over other teams that is an all-star caliber player.

If so, then all these moves were easily worth it and the future looks bright.

If not, next few years could be rough.
