Pretty much for why people are superficial with most things, they're not aware of what they don't know.

For example, I heard someone assume that Manute Bol's son is going to rule the NBA for no other fact that he's very, very tall.

With their limited knowledge of the game they came to a conclusion that makes absolute sense to them. He's taller, bigger than everybody else, so he's going to be better than everybody else.

The thing is that the vast majority of people are the same way with every other subject.
