I forget who it is, but somebody has this theory that Hollywood is filled with these "types", and how there's only so many spots for them, so there's usually an A guy and a B guy.

He always gives his biggest example as Tom Hanks and Michael Keaton. And what a big upset it was, because late 80s Michael Keaton was Batman, and Beetlejuice, and seemed like he'd never get caught, and then Tom Hanks passed him, and for two decades Keaton got stuck getting the second choice roles for that type, because Hanks got hot and was getting first choice. There's some theory that Keaton got really sick during that stretch and wound up having to pass a few key roles, like Philadelphia, and Hanks kind of Lou Gherig'd Keaton's Willie Keeler.

There's a few other good examples I can't really think of off the cuff. But Ed Burns and Affleck is a really good example.

I wish I could remember who said it. It might be Adam Carolla's bit.

Michael Keaton and Kevin Costner always reminded me of eachother. Never cared for either of their acting too.

Bill Simmons.

That makes more sense. Because I used to listen to him all the time.

In fact that's mostly where I've heard Carola.

I think my first exposure to this theory was them figuring Vin Diesel fit this category with The Rock, which probably isn't quite accurate. But it kind of meets the gist. And is probably why the two of them have so much tension making the FnF stuff.

Keaton is a brilliant actor. Costner not so much.

I used to always confuse Doris Roberts with Betty White.

Edward Burns kinda looked like Ben Affleck. Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and Leonardo Dicaprio also have some similarities. Tom Jane, Mark Strong and the original Highlander Christopher Lambert, and James Pureroy.

I read somewhere that Keaton got blacklisted when he refused to do a third Batman movie. Dont know if its true, but that's the time period he fell off.
