The problem is she has moved to america so her family should be assimilating to american values. And arranged marriages aren't a part of that. Her accent shows she at least grew up in America so I don't really buy the culture clash argument.

I think it was incorrect for him to say she ruined 8 years of her life or that she shouldn't be trusted because of that decision because there is obviously family pressure to get married as an indian. It's hard for him to understand and he shouldn't be expected to understand. There's no way he could especially on a first date like that.

She does have to accept she will receive push back on arranged marriage from american dudes though.

It depends on how you define success and happiness. Probably less pressure to keep a marriage based on love together than an arranged marriage.
