Defenders can meet a rim-attacker at the rim, whereas the only way to stop a hot jumpshooter is to double-team and get the ball out of his hands.. double-team decisions open up a defense to make mistakes and be in disarray

Jumpshooters also extend defenses and allow an offense to hit QUICKLY, which improves spurtability... the combination of quick-hitter offense coupled with defenses extending and having to make double-team decisions is why great jumpshooters give teams better offense / ability to put pressure on a defense / control the game

This is important because I noticed lebron operate from the post a lot, but there was no threat of a turnaround jumper - the pre-imminent weapon of the post player.... So no quick scoring that puts pressure on a defense / wears down a defense and no bad decisions/mistakes/disarray on defense from figuring out when to double/get the ball out of his hands

So even though it was a step in the right direction (lebron on the post more), it won't be effective without a legit turnaround that can provide quicker scoring/pace and force the defense into mistakes about whether to double or not... so the Lakers offense still stagnated... :( ... :D

So lebron had some nice MJ spins baseline tonight, but it's a COMPLETELY different dynamic when a goat jumpshooter that can hit quick and/or get hot catches it on the post (Bird, Dirk, MJ)... as opposed to a banger like bron.. :confusedshrug:

I guess you pretty much need a couple 3pt shooters with LeBron on the squad. Kuzma is only guy that can and now Bullock - might be a little too late of an addition. You don't really need too many playmakers, especially if you don't have the scorers/shooters to playmake to.

I'm hoping Lonzo can come back and turn around our defense. Players feed off one another, and it could be big. His return has to be soon though.

I also noticed every team plays like it's the finals when the Lakers roll into town. Even scrub teams like Hawks, Wizards, Suns and Knicks play their hearts out.. They are all gunning for us. It unfortunately comes with the territory..
