View Full Version : Which NBA team has had the least talent the last 20 years?

Last night I was talking about the Hornets with my people and I mentioned that im not sure their all time team would even win the title this year.

We thought about it and decided that if they got to keep the players they had as the New Orleans Hornets they easily would. But Charlotte teams only? Charlotte hornets/bobcats/renamed Hornets? All time team would be along the lines of:

Baron Davis/Kemba/Muggsy
Eddie Jones/Rex Chapman/Kendall Gill/Dell Curry
Glen Rice/Mashburn/Stephen Jackson/Batum
LJ/Gerald Wallace/Anthony Mason
Zo/Vlade/Emeka

Feel like I forgot someone but nobody major im sure. And thats 17 people. Gotta lose like 5 and even then some wont play.

They would clearly be the deepest team in the NBA. But a series vs the warriors?

Warriors have the 2 best players, an advantage at the 1 and 3....a stalemate at the 2....

Hornets better inside though if Cousins is 100% there is less of an edge....and Draymond could do a little work on LJ though LJ would outplay him.

Im not 100% sure Charlotte wins. They would have more talent....but would they play together better?

Initially it would be like when one of the shittier team USA squads played a well oiled international team...except in this case the well oiled experienced team that knows how to play together...would also have the 2 best players. And only 5 guys play at once.

Hornets would have the goon squad off the bench but in the playoffs when starters play 40 minutes when it counts?

The Warriors would give that team a run.

We also discussed the Nets chances of losing with an all time squad before it came to us they would have prime Doctor J and the early 90s Kenny/Coleman/Drazen squad to pick from. So...we limit it to 20 years.

Would a 98-99 to 2019 Nets squad win the title?

Kidd/Marbury/Devin Harris/Dangelo
Vince Carter/Kerry Kittles(?)
Joe Johnson/Pierce/Jefferson
Kmart/Keith Van Horn
Brook Lopez/Old KG

Kidd vince and Jefferson were there together and won like 42 games. Adding 3 washed up stars, a better front court, and Marbury off the bench gonna take them from average in the east to best in the NBA?

Knicks, Hawks, and Bulls wouldnt be just...star studded. Bulls would be:

MVP Rose/Hinrich/Crawford
Jimmy Butler/Lavine/Ben Gordon
Deng/Jalen Rose
Gasol/Brand
Noah/Chandler

Knicks

Marbury/Nate
Houston//Crawford/Jr Smith
Melo/Sprewell
KP/David Lee
Amare/Camby

Who am I forgetting?

Hawks would have their 60 win team plus Mutombo, Jason Terry, and Joe Johnson I suppose. Maybe Antione walker too? I dont know that them being added makes that team win the title.

I did decide that all of them would be the most talented team in the NBA even if they didnt have the best individual player vs a lot of teams. And being deeper doesnt always get you the W(See the Jailblazers or Kings from the same era).

But still...off talent...they all SHOULD win.

So lets throw that out...

What team would field the least impressive/least compatible lineup of 10-12 guys if they had to make a real team of their players from the last 20 years?

Who would have the best?

When you make them in your head some odd things stand out. Like the Lakers....

Who is the point? NVE was gone by 98-99. You have Fisher, 04 Payton, 2013 Nash, second year Russell, Chucky Atkins from that one year, or rookie Lonzo Ball.

You kinda have to go 04 Payton right?

They would be loaded everywhere else but have a big disadvantage at point vs some of these teams.

I dont know who ends up first or last....but the Lakers would probably have the worst point in the final list.

Off the top of your head who would the shittiest lineups be?

The Wizards would have a nasty back court but nothing else.

Arenas/Wall
Beal/Rip/Hughes
Stackhouse/Jordan
Jamison/Juwan Howard
Gortat/Kwame

Who else?

Nick Young? Otto Porter?

They have to be the worst. That team probably couldnt take the Warriors.

Knicks obviously
imagine being by far the biggest market in the NBA yet failing to put together a decent team the past 20 years what a joke of a franchise :oldlol:

Charlotte's got to be the worst, right?

Three 50-win seasons in the last 30 years and 0 in the last 20. 16 seasons below .500 to 13 with .500+, made it past the first round a whopping 4 times in their entire franchise history.

Im not sure the 99-2019 Wizards would get homecourt advantage in the West.

Definitely the Hornets/Bobcats. Not to forget that during that period they also had the worst season in NBA history

Beal and Stackhouse aren't starting over Wall and Jordan.

If your giving the Bulls Gasol give the Wizards Dwight.

This is probably the Hawks or Grizzlies.

Wall may be at the 1 with Arenas at the 2 but Beal is a better option at the 2 than Wall. Jordan vs Stackhouse is just...whatever. Wizards Jordan isnt moving the needle much. First season maybe. Second season? Not so much.

And why even bring up Howard? hes played 9 games for Washington. Gasol had the most productive season of his career for the Bulls.

Knicks would be worse. Marbury, Melo and Amare on the same team is a call for disaster.
Atleast Wizards would have well rounded team with lots of good defenders and enough shooting. Jamison would be really good in today's game too, they are not beating the Warriors either tho.

Knicks have some good pieces to make them well rounded like Tyson Chandler, Allan Houston, Porzingis, Gallo, Deandre, Linsanity, Spree, Camby, even old ass Ewing and Mark Jackson. But I would agree they're around the same level as the Wiz.

The Bucks have to be up there. Outside of Giannis and Ray Allen, who would even be the other players?

Michael Redd, Bogut, probably a lot of the guys on the team now.. Middleton, Bledsoe, etc. Glenn Robinson?

Who are their bigs? I honestly can't think of anyone besides Bogut.

What about PG? Brandon Jennings?

Since 99....

Cassell/Tj Ford
Ray/Redd
Glenn/Middleton/Desmond Mason?
Giannis
Bogut

Be about the best you could do. But you would have to put someone out of position. Maybe toss in Mo Williams and John Salmons?

Center probably Brook Lopez other than Bogut. He's been crazy good in his current role.

They had some excellent vet PGs like Payton and Cassell

Yeah, I would probably go with Charlotte. Kemba, Wallace, Captain Jack, Dwight 1 year, other than that, not much.

If you go back before the move though, they had Jamal Mashburn, Baron Davis, Eddie Jones, Derrick Coleman, Anthony Mason.
