Only All-NBA selection of his career too. Not sure if this ever happened to a player whose career wasn't somehow cut short.

He threatened to choke the voters if they didn't give him 1st team :lol

There's actually a couple others who did the same, McHale, Rose & even Noah :lol

No MJ at the 2 spot

Plus spree was all-D that year. Just had a great year

But his ortg killed his PER and all the advanced stats..

He was a great athletic 2 guard that played both sides of the ball

I reckon his defense and it being his sophomore year played a role, but he played for a team that was far from killing it on D. And his overall production while good wasn't exactly eyepopping. His team record wasn't all that and neither their record compared to year before.

He was good for 3rd. Maybe 2nd. But 1st? I'm still shocked.

Awesome 2 way player. His ego, attitude, low IQ and ability to be coached severely limited his development in the NBA as time went by.

Weak competition at the SG spot, hell Mitch was next on the 2nd team.

Don Nelson campaigned for him hard that year. I think he was talking him up for MVP. I remember a video from maybe...NBA action or inside stuff..with Nellie claiming nobody in the NBA did more for their team night in and night out.

He was a great all around player too that could also stroke it from three. His stats would have been even better but his team was so weak opponent's defenses game plan consisted of just focusing on shutting him down. :oldlol: You should know that.

96-97 was his prime year, and it's not even close. Didn't even sniff a team.

How did Marc Gasol not make 1st team all defense but win DPOY?

I suppose no one bothered to guard Mullin or Webber.

Same shit happened to Tyson Chandler the year before. What's really weird is a dude can be DPOY like Gasol and literally only make one All-Defensive team his entire career, and just a second team at that

Cause LeBron deserved it that year

Doesn't it have something to do with different people voting for all defensive teams vs DPOY?

Why are you bringing LeBron into this thread? Seems pretty hypocritical since you guys always ask why Kobe stans bring him into every thread.

Sometimes those awards make no sense. Like a few times, the DPOTY was selected to SECOND team All Defensive. Like, that makes sense right?
