That is such a great point, when you take into consideration how Jordan and Kobe always went at or close to 100% in every game. With Jordan often saying that he never wants to disappoint, cheat, those who are watching him for the first time and will never get to see him live again. They never had to go into "playoff mode."
Meanwhile Lebron paces himself so much, specially on defense.
And even in the playoff, how many games has Lebron gone into "preseason mode," visibly quitting, and as a result have to play another game, a game 7.
It's a huge mentality difference.

The only reason you haven't disappeared in December like you always do, is because LeBron, one way or another, keeps your team relevant. Does it feel good to still be posting close to March for the first time in 5 years?

Game 6 versus Indiana last year, when they started calling him "LeTired." Should had ended it there. But his stats though.

Kobe did tone it down in later years. Not to the Lebron extent.

Kobe and MJ always felt they had to prove themselves.
It's going to be tough to evaluate these guys mindset wise when you factor in their bodies.
When the game comes extremely easy to you, why work harder if you can work smarter? I'm not condoning lazy play but it's clear some guys are so supremely talented they can get superstar numbers in their sleep.

Mike D'antoni commenting on defense?!
Weird right? Coaches never shit on players. Usually it's the biased media. Local media also never disrespects their own superstar. ...wait what's that?
ForumBlueAndGold:
"there are players whose bad habits are sticking out like a sore thumb. And while it may be difficult for some people to hear, one of the chief culprits is Kobe Bryant."
SB Nation's Screen and Roll:
"To call Kobe Bryant's defense this season bad is to call the Pacific Ocean big, or the sun hot. He hasn't just been bad and he's not just a liability. His presence on the defensive end of the court has actually become a detriment, in the truest sense of the word. And the worst part? He's not failing to play defense. He has willingly decided that he no longer needs to try."
Ouch!
This is one time where I really wish I made it up :oldlol:

This makes sense. This is why Kobe was never able to up his game in the playoffs. Still put up the same old 25/5/5 average on 45%.

So this guy didn't statpad:
But even Jordan has been caught in triple-double-mania.
During breaks in games, Jordan has been wandering over to the scorer's table to get updates on how many rebounds, assists and points he needs to fill his three double-figure quotas.
"The guys at the scorer's desk let me know what I need," he said. "They tell me, 'You need three assists; you need two rebounds."'
Jordan also has been double-checking the figures with Chicago assistants.
"They keep me in tune," he said. "They keep reminding me when I come back to the huddle, how much I need."
Last Sunday, at home against New Jersey, the 10th assist was Jordan's final goal.
"I knew I had nine assists," he said, "and I looked at (forward) Brad (Sellers), and said, 'Brad, can I count on you for my 10th?' And he said, 'yeah' and hit a jumper from the baseline."
