I select Steph Curry.
He is the guy that changes everything on the court. Best player? Debatable. But I'll go with him as the best chance of winning if the rest of the roster is unknown.
Who do you got? One player.

Steph. Best player in the league... has been for 3-4 years.

I would also take Steph.

See? It's not hard to agree.
(BTW, I do NOT think Kobe is better than LeBron. Both are top 10ish for me.)
But let's make this thread about who ISH would select as the one player to win with this very year.
Wardell Curry

LeBron finally looks like he's on the decline, Harden always underperforms in the playoffs, Durant looked shaky his last few years in the playoffs on OKC pre Warriors, and everyone else hasn't proven much of anything in the playoffs.
Curry's the logical answer here

Where are all the Giannis and Embbid fans at? No takers for Harden and Jokic?
If so... what is this MVP debate all about?

MVP isn't about best player in the league, even though it should be.
It's a stupid award.
Basically MVP is really the "Annual Arbitrary Moving Goalposts Award" because the media never sticks to a set criteria... they pick whatever they want on the yearly.
I'll take KD. Curry is up there too.
KD is the best player in the league. Unguardable on offense and truly the difference-maker in the playoffs.

PG obviously best two way player in the game
Why would you want someone that shrinks in big games as much as Curry does

I think it really is a most valuable player award. Most valuable to whom? The media. They do the voting... MVP is a media driven award. Who is the MVP? The story that sells best.
Wetbrook TD season? It's him. Nash transforming the Suns? It's him. It1s rather obvious Shaq was the best player for... almost a decade. Number of MVPs? 1. Story didn't sell well enough.

Serious, would have to be Steph at this point.

Maybe.
But I wouldn't take the 'best player'. I'd take the player that gives me the best chance to win. The one the opposing team has a very hard time to adapt to. And to me, that is Curry.

Probably fair. Never thought about it in those terms... but at the same time... they've been ****ing this award up since its inception... I don't think the media has always been this ratings driven. Ratings driven at any cost media seems to have been an 80s to present thing that has gotten consistently worse as time has gone on in terms of reporting. Maybe I'm wrong.
The players were just as bad as the media if not worse.

Things change. Today, rating is everything. Sure... you still had to sell things back in the day. But you had more time.
Nowadays... LeBron James can go from best ever (historic playoff run in 2018 one of the best I've ever seen if not the best)... to... not even top 5 in the league. Was he that good? Is he that bad? Neither... but as of now he is a tough sell.
People tend to buy the instant image more and more. Is this a bad thing? I don't know. It's different. Usually, all people ever having been alive think things were more or less great until they were in their very young 30s... and then everything started to go downhill. Improvements in science and technology were great when they were young (i.e.: internet) but it gets ruined (social media).
I'm old enough that my children finished high school. So... I don't know anymore. I have noone on the house to tell me what I should think. :oldlol:

It isn't that obvious if you are the only one taking him. BTW, I didn't ask who the best player is. Just who you would take if all your money was on the line.

On a more serious note, if I knew he could play 36-38 minutes I might take.... okay, it's a game. Guess who.

Gun to my head, life depending on it? Durant
Not a matter of life and death, could also win it and would be more fun to watch? Curry

One player is irrelevant. Could be anyone out of the best players in the league and it would still depend on who he is surrounded with. No one has a clear advantage.

As your one player with an unknown roster? Does he play defense during those 36-38 minutes?

It also depends on whether all the other teams are similarly structured. There's no one player that's going to get you a win over a team like the Warriors.
But if it's a level playing field, is there a player like Curry or healthy Lebron that gives you the most advantage?
I would take Curry now, and Lebron in previous years. Although Durant would be tempting, and Giannis is almost there.

Yeah. But he plays in minutes 30-38 as he played in minutes 2-10.
