View Full Version : Dwyane Wade: Miami's Champion

305Baller

This is the beginning of the end for ol' DWade. Wade brought a championship to Miami in his prime, almost single-handedly, against Dallas.

Sure, he may have gotten a couple of whistles in the 06 Finals but his speed and attack mode caused the chaos. The refs couldn't keep up.

He then orchestrated the team up with Bosh and James, having to throttle his game for James and helping bring 4 more finals appearances to Miami.

He brought Zo, Miami's first BBall legend, his first title. He got Riley his first title since Laker days. A title that escaped Riley's grasp during the Jordan run in New York then Miami. He got Jason white choco Williams a title, and Antoine Walker. And he allowed Shaq a sweet goodbye title after his LA run.

It is time to celebrate Miami's greatest athlete.

The one.

The only...

DWYANE WADE.

Will he go for 50 in his last game? Not sure that's his style but it's gonna be a BIG game.

If wish he had immortal knees. He went hard and put his body on the line. Guys like that burn bright but can't last. In 09, he was as good as anybody in the league. A league in which Duncan, Lebron, Kobe, Dirk, etc were all in their primes. Wade is someone who I fear history might not be too kind to because of lack of longevity stats but anyone who watched him will know better. I got a soft spot for guys like that. Bernard King and Bill Walton among those.

Yeah, that knee without a meniscus wore down quick, gave him a lot of problems. His weight didn't help things, he was so bulked up at one point... but alas, nobody is perfect.

Heat should have gone to the finals a year before they did if not for Wade's injury. Would have been an interesting matchup with the Spurs. It's interesting to note that Wade was typically better against teams like the mid 2000s Pistons and late 2000s Celtics than either Lebron or Kobe.

True. Wade was not a chucker like Kobe (best chucker ever) but he would give you high efficiency, smart and safe shot selection and elite playmaking. His fg% would hover around 50% but he rarely gave you the 50 point explosion due to this.

And LeBrons not a closer.

3rd best SG ever, don't see him ranked below 4 (West has the legacy/resume nod but lol 60s) anytime soon. Fringe top 15 all-time and I'm far from a D-whistle stan but he's a straight killer and I can respect that.

I honestly think he peaked higher than Curry although the lack of elite level longevity will hurt him. He doesn't have the legacy/resume of other similar guys (Bird and Magic come to mind, both had relatively short peaks) which hurts him even more. He was almost always overshadowed by Kobe and LeBron throughout his prime, it is what it is

Should have had 4 rings and 2 finals MVPs if one of his teammates didn't choke in 2011

That’s Kobe’s resume. Especially considering his MVP caliber 09 season is a better individual season than the previous year when Kobe won the award itself. Odd but facts. He’s a top 5 SG easily.

After

1) MJ
2) Kobe

It’s really up in the air for me between West, D-Wade, Drexler with ranking. Harden is pushing into that 6th spot to usurp Iverson. Needs consistent solid to great playoff runs to move forward.

I don't think there's much reason to be up in the air between Wade and Clyde. I'll refrain from ranking Wade against West because I didn't see West so I'll respect history and not make that comparison. But Clyde and Wade? That's easy. Clyde never peaked as high as Wade did, and I say that knowing he was a hell of a player in his prime. But it's Wade bro. Better two way player, better peak scorer, better peak defender. Wade's 2006 title with FMVP on its own merits trump Clyde's second banana ring with Houston without even factoring in Wade's 'sidekick' rings in 2012 and 2013. Really, Wade in 2006( his third year) was already as good if not better than Clyde ever was.

Easily cosign all of that. But I can also hear an argument for Drexler having superior longevity.

I think Wade's longevity( or lack thereof) is a bit overblown. He basically gave you 8 peak/prime years, 2005-2013, there were some injuries in that period but that's basically the frame I'd say he was anywhere from top 3 to lower top 10 by 2013. 2014 he was past that prime period but he did bounce back in 2015 and 2016 to all-star level. Clyde made the all-star team his third year, remained at that level through the late 80's and peaked around the time he was taking Portland to the finals. He basically wasn't top ten level after 92. In his favor he never suffered any major production dip till his retirement, so I guess that's where the longevity comes in. But he really didn't have more 'peak' years than Wade and he simply wasn't a better player in a vacuum, or even have better accolades to balance it out.

Honestly AI/Harden/Moncrief all have arguments for the #5 spot.

AI:

MVP
7x All-NBA
4x Scoring Leader
3x Steals Leader

Harden:

MVP
5x All-NBA
6th MOY
Scoring Champ
Assists Leader

Moncrief (the most underrated NBA player and it's a disgrace that he's not in the HOF):

2x DPOY
5x All-NBA
5x All-Def

Compare all that to Drexler's resume:

NBA Champ
5x All-NBA

That's it.

HM: The Iceman with his 7 All-NBA selections and 4 scoring titles (more accolades in the ABA).

Wade's 2009 r/s is up there with any of Kobe's. If not greater than.

Not talking about the playoffs.

Just his regular-season.

That's Wade @ his absolute peak imo. He played better defense than 2006 Kobe and was a better playmaker which equalizes Kobe's 35ppg. Keep in mind, Wade averaged 30 himself.

I'd say that version of Wade was the closest thing to late 80s/early 90s MJ.
