View Full Version : Would a 34 Year Old Kobe Bean Bryant take this Lakers team to the Playoffs? (Poll)

Going with yes. Kobe put up similar production to LeBron while giving more on the defensive side and without nearly as much ball domination. Kobe was able to drag a rag tag group to back to back rings in an era where LeBron was still trying to figure out how he was going to win in the east. (Later figures it out by joining the top two players in the division in

They got swept in the first round becaus Kobe got injured at the end of the season. Kobe didn’t play one game in the series.
That team was ass. Steve Nash was like 40 years old and so busted up he was useless. That’s like saying “Prime LeBron couldn’t even win one with Shaquille O’Neal.”
Wack trolling. Very weak effort.

Dwight was an all star that season and had similar production as the year prior. His surgery is just a weak excuse, he balled out. Both Dwight and Gasol were all stars after leaving Kobe's team.
So Kobe had 2 all star calibre players (Dwight, Gasol) alongside him that season and barely made the playoffs, but we're supposed to expect him to make the playoffs without question with rookie and sophomore role players instead? :lol

when lebron came back the lakers were 1 game out of the playoffs
he's since lost to all of the worst teams in the nba
kobe plays better when injured. he didn't miss a single game with the same exact injury in 2010 ontop of his knee/hand issues
kobe also wouldn't balloon up to 280 pounds even if he did take that much time off ( which he wouldn't )
and how many close games came down to lebron choking at the free throw line. kobe doesn't do that.

jesus its almost as if you didn't witness Kobe's last few years in the league. Kobe would be doing a ton of glaring at these teammates and would just say screw it and shoot everytime. He took a worse squad to 42 wins before getting hurt. That team was good when fully healthy but the problem was they could not stay healthy and it took some adjustments before Kobe had that incredible 2nd half where he willed that team to the postseason.
He would push these guys far more than LeBron. LeBron's obsession with completely overhauling his rosters when they inevitably start slow backfired on him and this is the mess, Kobe was never like that midseason even with actual trash rosters. He always ended up building good chemistry unless the player was a loser like Dwight or Smush. This team would win 50 games at minimum even if Kobe missed 18 games, that's the sign of a great leader

says all you need to know about Kobe vs LeBrons expectations/standards.

Absolutely not.
The 2013 Lakers barely made the playoffs with Kobe playing 78 games. And that was a more talented, veteran team in an easier Western Conference and an even weaker Eastern Conference than today.
I don't see how Kobe leads the current Lakers to the playoffs while missing 18 games, a young roster that has known nothing but losing and simply a much tougher league than 2013.

100% this. These retards are bringing up stats as if its the ultimate indicator of how Howard was playing..
"Howard had back surgery earlier in April, and the Lakers had acquired him with the possibility that he might be out until December or January. He did not play basketball until training camp in October."
"The Lakers starting lineup at the start of the regular season was the leagues oldest"
These guys are bringing up Gasol as an argument? Is that why he was replaced by EARL CLARK for a majority of the season? EARL CLARK was starting at one point because 1) Gasol was not the same 2) D'Antoni was playing him wrong
OH YEAH. Metta World Peace had a serious knee surgery after the allstar break that was supposed to sideline him for 6-8 weeks but came back in 2 weeks (SOMEHOW) just to try and support the team. Artest looked REALLY bad because he rushed coming backk.
OH YEAH BTW: World Peace played 15 minutes in the game, returning 12 days after his surgery though initial estimates were six weeks. In his absence, D'Antoni was using a reduced seven-man rotation with Bryant playing close to all 48 minutes each game
The 7 man rotation? Earl Clark, Dwight, Gasol, Steve Blake, Artest, Jodie Meeks, Atwan Jamison with a bench of Devin Ebanks, Robert Sacre, Chris Duhon, Darius Morris.
So tell me how does that team full of allstars do? Earl Clark, Steve Blake starting. Some games Darius Morris would start!!!!

Hypotheticals, Kobe with this team right now struggles. Laker bigs are not good rebounders and the same lapses they've made would frustrate him. I'd say they would be about the same they are now.
Only reason they would have a lil more cohesity is Kobe is a SG and primarily would be one.
One of the Lakers problems that's been a good and bad thing is small Forwards.
Lebron can play 4, but he's a 3.
Ingram is a prototypical 3
Kuzma is a 3
Kuzma to me is Antawn Jamison. He's a scorer whether on the bench or starting. Same defensive issues too. He should be your 6th man of the year. He's in that Lou Williams/ Jamison/Crawford tear of microwave scoring.
If you want to get technical, Lance is more of a 3 than 2 guard. Paul George was the 2 on that Indiana team with Lance playing more 3.

Lets do a cute comparison
Nash, Steve Blake, Darius Morris - Lonzo, Rondo
Kobe, Jodie Meeks - Reggie Bullock, KCP, Josh Hart, Ingram (starts at 2 sometimes)
Artest, Devin Ebanks - LeBron/Ingram/Lance Stephenson
Gasol, Jamison - LeBron/Kuzma/Wagner
Dwight / Robert Sacre - Mcgee / Chandler / Zubac (before)
No one wants to talk about the rest of his team. They're focused on Dwight (with a surgery that was supposed to keep him sidelined till December) for some strange reason.

Yup, those guys were absolutely important, i remember kobe getting the best out of jodie meeks, earl clark, jordan hill, jamison and even darius morris.
They were absolutely 100% behind the OG, just check how the bench would celebrate and go nuts over kobe,

Yep Gasol was having one of the worst periods in his career because of his inability to mesh with D'Antoni hence why Earl Clark started.
Most of the guys ended up out of the league after 1-2 years sans Lakers. Kobe willed his team and guys. Didn't demand for everyone to be shipped to his agent.
