Max with the usual hot take :oldlol:

Can't say I disagree with his point though.

LeBron has the longevity argument, if in the next 3 years LA makes a run for a title. It'd mean that he would still be playing at a high level. In a draft "pickem" debate, that stuff matters.

Obviously all of that is a hypothetical, and more than likely not happening.

lebron doesn't have the longevity argument though

kareem won finals mvp at age 37

lebron will never come close to anything like this let alone being 1st team all nba like kobe was in year 17

both those guys played defense way later in their careers at a high level as well

kobe started conserving energy around 2012/13 ( year 16/17 ) ... lebron stopped playing defense in 2013/14 at age 29 in year 11

I think LeBron is semi-retired at this point. Meaning, he stil plays but the “legacy” part of his career is over.

The hypothetical in the video assumes he will though.

At the very least, Lebron's play would be "MVP caliber".

He never really had a great case.

The true successor to Jordan needs to have 6-7 titles (as the no.1 option) and several scoring titles and 5 MVPs plus a sterling record in the playoffs (Finals in particular). Call me when that player shows up.

3 titles in 16 years with only one scoring title, huge losing record in the Finals ... no DPOY ... nope.

LeBron never had a case.

IMO, you can't be the "GOAT" when several of your own contemporaries are going to end up with more championships then you.

That's actually a pretty solid point

I am sorry when was Horry considered one of MJ's contemporaries? The fact is MJ won more then the guys he was often compared with (ex. Magic and Bird). That isn't going to be the case for LeBron.

For the record, at age 34 (his last year in Chicago) MJ was the MVP, the Finals MVP and first team All-NBA defense.

Jordan was 39, in his second season with the Wizards, during Horry's rookie year.

No MJ had a losing record against all of his rivals (Magic, Bird, Thomas) he was only able to win after they retired

They beat MJ's team when Jordan was playing on average/bad teams.

And yet, when Jordan started being called the GOAT by the majority of the media, and, therefore, the fans, the only thing among all these that he had over Russell or Kareem was more scoring titles and the only thing he had over Wilt was...pretty much nothing, since he had been called the GOAT by many before he even got to 3 titles and Wilt still had more scoring titles and MVP's.
Such accolades became the "GOAT standard" only when Jordan reached a secure enough point at those.

Stephen A Smith also said that you can say that Lebron is a better all around player than MJ.. But not in the last two minutes of the game..

I would say I agree with Smith.. MJ is clearly the best clutch player I have ever seen.. He also combined that with Lebron type of dominance during the first 46 min of a game.. That is THE REASON MJ IS GOAT..

I agree that the debate never existed. Not for a while at least.

Lebron's ceiling has been 2nd GOAT for a while. Something that he's arguably already achieved.

Hard to put Lebron over Kareem imo... I have him third.. As many ex NBA players have him..

Jordan was 39, in his second season with the Wizards, during Horry's rookie year.

Actually, Horry’s rookie year was 1992, in the second year MJ won a ring. However, Bron stans that bring up Horry love to ignore the fact that he was a role player who had to play on three different teams with four All Time greats (Olajuwon, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan) to win his rings.

MJ was a better player than both when he only had 2 titles.

It should have disappeared completely after 2011, baffles my mind that people still think it's a debate.

Jordan was a much better player

Never existed but they sure love to have it every other day. The likes of SAS, Skip, Shannon, Nick Wright would be out of the job

To me MJ is in a class of his own, and then guys like Magic, Bird, Kareem, LeBron are in a separate class right under him.

Fact check:
Horry won in 2000/2001/2002/2005/2007 - Jordan was only playing in 2001-2002 (1 year)

Horry won in 1994 (Jordan baseball)
Horry won in 1995 (Jordan played 17 games after 1.75 years away). (.25)

So he won 1.25 / 7 during Jordan's era.:facepalm

Without Horry there would be no ring in 2002 for the Lakers.. There would be no ring for THE SPURS in 2005.. The guy was clutch and made huge plays over aNd over in the playoffs.. The guy is the GOAT role player.. No doubt..

Interesting - how many FMVPs did Horry end up with then? Votes?
