View Full Version : If Luke knows he's going to be fired, why would he not resign right now?

It most be in his contract that he won't get paid if he resigns?

How messed up is it that he has to keep coaching as the entire team knows Bran is ousting him for another black friend?

Gotta give Luke credit for not imploding.

He has a reputation to maintain if he wants to continue to work in this industry. You'd know this if you had a job.

You never quit in lieu of being fired. If you quit, they don't have to pay you dick. If he is fired, they still owe him every penny left on his contract.

If Walton quits outright, the Lakers do not have to pay him for the remainder of his contract. He's guaranteed through the end of the 2020 season at $5 million per. He could probably go to the team and negotiate a buyout for 90% of what he's owed, but if he does that, he lets the Lakers off the hook. If he requests a buyout, then Magic will be able to claim that the team never intended to fire him. Magic can make it look like Walton is the bad guy for abandoning the Lakers.

Screw that. Walton needs to see it through to the bitter end, so that Magic is the one who has to explain his decision, and why this Laker season has turned into such a disaster.
