View Full Version : Let's say, hypothetically, that the Lakers land Zion..

What should they do? Trade him for AD? Keep him? Trade Bron for expirers and picks? They certainly can't keep the current core with LeBron much longer. Either would have to be shipped out eventually.
Can't believe we're officially in the race with the Cavs for a high draft pick now. I'd burst into tears if we beat them to a higher pick.

Trade him for AD straight up he doesn't fit the timeline with LeBron who's 34 and trying to win now

getting AD is solving none of LAL's problems. remember they have to give up pieces
and tbh, even if they keep the whole squad WITH AD, how far you reckon they can go, looking at the way they are playing now?
truth is Lebron is getting old, nothing can reverse that.. last year was the final year he can carry any team

1. Keep him. He'll be on rookie contract.
2. Get another star to try making a run. Any one will do. Even Klay or Beal.
3. Get quality role players.

There's two options:
- trade Lebron for a less cancerous superstar (PG, KD, ...) and they will instantly be contenders
- don't trade Lebron and add at least 2 superstars
No more options

last thing lakers need is another mental midget like lebron.
lakers need a guy with mamba mentality, never back down.

Zion has an extremely high workrate and motor. Would be a good fit in my opinion. Only problem is his shooting, but I think they can solve that far easier than they can work rate and hustle which Zion brings in bundles.
Not to mention he is the next big marketing superstar. I don't see how LA gets rid of him if he lands in their lap. Hope he does land in LA, NY or another big market. I think the league needs it, especially given LeBron is on the way out, and he is by far the biggest draw. It would be like MJ leaving essentially.

Trade him and Lebron for Giannis. Sign Klay and Kawhi. Trade Ingram, Kuzma, Hart and picks for KAT.

Trade James for Davis. They won't do it but it's what they should do whether they get the first pick or not (and they won't).
It's going to be weird to see the LA crowd yawn through every single one of James career milestones.

The thing is the Lakers now have more leverage than they did at the deadline, Im not sure they have to give up a 2019 #1 for Davis now.
If Davis continues to insist he’ll only play for LAL, then Ball, Ingram, Kuzma, 2020 #1 may be the best offer the Pels are gonna get.
LeLakers could get Davis AND Zion, plus a quality free agent.

Lakers should keep Zion and Bran, get AD and that should do it.

You keep Zion. Any GM who would trade Zion needs to be fired.

Trade Lebron to NO for AD and sign Kawhi or Thompson
Zo
Kawhi/Klay
BI
Zion
AD
That's potentially the best defensive starting 5 in the whole league and imagine Zo in transition with all those weapons.

What makes you think Los Angeles is this entitled?
The fact that Davis himself said he wont sign long term anywhere but with LAL (before back tracking for PR reasons AFTER the deadline)?

Magic spoke of bringing back showtime. I think even given the circumstances he would mull a Lonzo-Zion pairing before shipping him for a bonafide star.
Personally I'd stand pat, maybe add a star. I would change the coach and trust the new coaching staff with rebuilding chemistry and trust.

Trade LBJ for Anthony Davis. :oldlol:
This idea was floated on another website, because of the following reasons:
LBJ does not have a no-trade clause.
4 years of guaranteed constant drama is not worth it.
trading away assets in order to win with LBJ is less and less likely every day.
The Lakers is one of the most storied franchises in the league. Consistently good for much longer and more pantheon players than the Celtics. No reason to remain hostage to a single player.
Jeanie Buss pulls off a power move, dump LBJ to somewhere he has zero leverage, bring in a generational talent that's on the same timeline as the rest of their young core, retain depth that is a must for surviving the 82 game gauntlet. Save a bunch of money and maintain cap flexibility for this summer for at least 1 if not 2 free agents. Klay might come back home. Kawhi will think twice.

My scenario where Lakers get Giannis for Lebron and Zion is much better and the team is much better too. Zion is going to be a bust and it would be wise to get as much as you can while there is still hype about him.
