Was the trade made because those guys were teaming up to destroy Luka's career?

Makes sense if so.

Because they're way worse without those players.

Have you ever heard the term 'tanking' before?

I think your reasoning is a bit of a stretch, but loosing 4 decent starters(3 vets) in place of younger guys is to make you look worse.

DJ was one foot out of the door before mid season, he was clearly there for the paycheck early on.
Matthews was a take what you can get for the older expirer.
Barnes is just an average cog piece for a good team, but he's not a star.
DSJ was redundant with Luka, 2 good, young ball dominant players, one of them needed to go.

I think the Mavs did a decent job of shipping out the players that didn't fit this year, they weren't a good team before and they still aren't, so the drop off isn't even noticeable to the casual non-Mav fans.

They are trying to lose to keep their pick.

Mavs and the Wizards lost tonight, but Memphis won. Dallas and Washington are both just one game behind the Grizzlies for the sixth worst record in the league. The sixth worst record would jump Dallas’ odds of landing in the top five from 29.4 percent to 37.2 percent.

They were blackballing him and they were never going to be part of Mavs going forward.

Wes and DAJ would for sure be gone anyone.

DSJ wanted out himself, Mavs wanted to keep him.

Barnes was a tank move. I think he was well liked and worked well with Luka.

They're full on tanking now for sure. They have like 25% to get a top4 pick.
