There was no combine back in 84 so its hard to find actual legit sources

Back in the day when MJ would jump we'd treat it like a half time show. Grab a beer, take a piss....whatever. By the time we sat back down he was still in the air.

So yes, his vert was 48in probably more.

Remember when we had Price, Ehlo, Nance, Brad, and Hot Rod? MJ hit that jumper right in Ehlo's eye and the whole city of Cleveland went limp. It was at that moment that I knew MJ would be GOAT. I still wore my Price jersey the next day though with pride. :applause:

Hyperbole. 48 is a lot and most rare guys with that can only jump high.

Jesus. Is there accessible info about other players on this? I imagine 93 wouldn't represent the peak of his lift on jumpshots either.....

He was about 44 inch max, off one or two feet based on all known highlights. Same as LeBron, off one foot. Honestly, LeBron's a bit better jumping off one foot and Jordan's significantly better jumping off two.

But neither of them have 48 inches vertical. There's been very few if any NBA player with that vertical. You need the professional dunkers who do nothing but practice jumping (and are genetic freaks) to get that kind of vertical, or even higher. Of course, none of the pro dunkers could begin to be competitive in real basketball.

His tested measurements were this:

Standing: 36"
Max running: 45.8"
Dunking: 41.5"

From what I remember it was measured in college. It's hard to find the original source, since so many people have discussed it, and if you Google it you will get the noise of people simply discussing it.

The thing about verticals, is that they change year by year, most likely, is affected by simply having the ball, and it's doubtful that a player will get to reach it during a game.

It was over 40 or sure but 48 is a reach.

It isn't just game-winners

It's taking over down the stretch

He isn't anywhere near MJ or Kobe in that regard

Because he's scared to go to the line, can't shoot, and has a weaker, predictable repertoire

This isn't my opinion - this is the consensus

Kobe? Uhhh

Imagine winning five rings and only being the leader twice.

3/3 =100% leadership

2/5 = 40% leadership

Do you have a source for those stats? Not because I question them but I'd like to see the stats for some other players like Vince, Nique, etc.

I don't think i have ever seen anyone over 44" on the combine measurements. I think Nate Robinson was around there.

Freakish jumping ability seemed to run in the Jordan family, his brother Larry is like 5'8 and dunking like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJAIyXQ5wNU

That's got to be north of a 40 inch vert, and I think Jordan could jump just as high if not higher but in a 6'6 body.

Elosha
03-12-2019, 11:44 AM
Wilt said his was 50".

Wilt said a lot of shit. At 50 inches, his head would be 15 inches over the rim. And we've never even seen a good example of him ever being rim level, despite having dunks and blocks probably numbering in the hundreds. (I don't count the few distorted/bad camera angle videos Wilt proponents cite, as those are easily disprovable).

Wilt was a great athlete in many ways. He is undisputedly an ATG player. But his jumping ability is way overblown. He was a very good jumper for a center. Nothing more, nothing less. In my opinion, there have been a number of centers with better verticals than him, including Dwight, Shaq, Deandre Jordan, and David Robinson. Of course, Wilt's a better player than all of them, with the quite possible exception of Shaq.
