I agree, it has gotten a little out of hand. I wonder if it's because offense is revered and defense, well no one cares about as much?

Iverson got his big shoe deals and money deals because he could score the ball. No one really cared about defense back in the 90s either but now scoring is heavily rewarded in large sums of cash/deals so it's almost like they want the players to save all their energy for offense and not defense.

Of course you could also contend that as a result of conserving energy on the defensive end the players in today's era have more energy to use on the offensive end, thus leading to more efficient offensive schemes/plays.
