I think hes probably the biggest victim of this modern idea that your basketball ability is what the stat sheet says.

100% no question starter on the all competitive team.

Isiah
MJ though some would say Kobe
Bird
Not sure. KG? Rodman? Barkley higher than you think too.
Russell

He was an all time elite point guard just off ability...but the leadership and heart? Vernon Maxwell and Alvin Robertson his only competition to head the in the "Is this ***** crazy?" no backdown list of little men.

We have guys now being carried off with cramps or put in wheelchairs with shoulder injuries. Isiah was out there on an ankle so bad he would just collapse trying to get up.....

25 point quarter 43 for the game amd if not for the phantom foul on Laimbeer wins the title that very game. They had a play to win but Dantley accidentally knocked him down so the ball went to Dumars who drove and missed the title winning shot in the lane. They won the next 2 though....

Him being a local hero we were all torn. We HATED the Pistons but not Isiah. I never met him back then but he was from like 2 minutes from where my family lived. So we didnt just...love him...but we respected him. He was hated most everywhere though because he was the reason the Bad Boys were such *****. Laimbeer, Mahorn, and Rodman get the highlights knocking people out but Isiah was the ring leader.

Im not gonna do a whole thing about him right now...its just odd to me how forgotten he is. He gets a "Oh yea...and Isiah Thomas" mention in point guard rankings and other than the obsession with numbers I cant see why. He really should have had a 3peat....

Hes so misunderstood. There are people who think he was shoot first when those who watched him knew he might pass the whole game then just:

Down the stretch to knock your team out of the playoffs. Stats show he scored a lot but it was in 2 bursts....30-34 minutes were straight passing.

He had the entire skillset. Didnt take a lot of threes because nobody did but he could when he needed to. Like when he scored 16 in 90 seconds....

Just feels hes never gonna get his due.

The ducking out in '91 after eliminated/swept by the Bulls with time remaining in game 4 really made me not care for Zeke.

For real how u gonna beat that team THREE STRAIGHT YEARS and then bitch out when they finally beat you?

They couldn't handle feeling humiliated. They were so attached to feeling like the bullies, it was like if an older brother gets beat up by his little bro who is finally grown, and can't even look him in the eyes because he's ashamed.

This is a soft and poor era in NBA history. The best players right now are mostly super soft mentally. The rules/enforcement is so weak. There is a lot of shooting type talent right now, but a lot of them wouldn't survive in the fairly recent past.

I still love the NBA, but like many others, I'm dying for a correction. I'm dying for a mentally tough and dominant star to lead this league. We haven't had one in 20 years.

What’s the problem? McHale, Parish and the Celtics did the same in ‘88, never heard anyone about it.

Game 7 was lame too. The Lakers were up I think 1 with 3 seconds or so to play when the entire arena ran onto the court almost making it impossible for Laimbeer to inbound. He still found Dumars(?) who got blatantly fouled by Magic. No call, game over.

First, either you forgot or you're talking out your ass about McHale

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vW4eYHzY4g4

Key differences:

In 1988, the Celtics that were on the bench at the time left with 3 seconds left for safety reasons because the fans started spilling on the court early -- creating a potentially unsafe situation. Most of the Celtics actually did shake the Pistons hands because they had to walk right past Detroit's bench on their way out of the building. There is no footage of a Celtics player walking by any Pistons player and deliberately refusing to acknowledge them. We saw Bird walk down the tunnel but we don't know if he shook hands before that point or not. The camera never showed Bird near any Pistons player.

By contrast, in 1991 Detroit was playing at home and walked off for no good reason. Most of the Pistons walked right past Chicago without even looking at them and deliberately refused to acknowledge them as they passed by and through Chicago's bench.

I think the time spent after retiring from the game (ie: NYC) helped retract from his image for many, unfortunately. We'll never see that type of toughness in any MAJOR sport any longer.

He was a great player. It's a shame that this injury ruined his whole career.

You would have to have seen the '88 Finals featuring best friends, Magic and Isaiah, who were also rivals to understand the reference.

I remember Magic giving Isiah a hard foul to show to his teammates he was ready for war. Isiah didn't appreciate it

Zeke was royalty in my house growing up. he was just a flat out gamer. 6'1 with the aura of a giant.

also threw the greatest bounce pass in all-star game (if not league) history: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abH17lgdO1U

Isiah is the most underrated great IMO. Always respected the guy because he came to play. He dished out hits but took his hits like a man. About as fierce a killer as there ever was. Kids today look at his bball ref and say he wasn't that good. LOL. They have no idea.

Best friends don't kiss each other on the cheek and they aren't foreign, so who knows, use your imagination, you would have to ask them.

Question Mr. Has had a prostate exam sometime recently, what about his game are the stats specifically not exposing?

Especially compared to guys of his era. He played in a ****ing joke era for the most part, ofc compared to this one. And a really high scoring one. Possibly the most high scoring era other than the past 4 years.

Price, Porter, Stockton, KJ, Magic, all had no problems shooting better than than him from the field, and exceeding him on playmaking.

I mean wtf is special about his inadequacies compared to them?

And am I really supposed to believe he was tougher than Stockton? A guy who literally never ever ever ever missed any games, played them all physically, or dirty really? How many ****ing injuries did he tough through that you’d never ever hear about?

When Isiah “should’ve three-peated”, he did not stand out from the point guards I just mentioned. Not in accolades, not statistically, only his teams success. And that’s not a measure of him as a player. Otherwise just say he was better than Bird, Jordan, and Magic and complete the stupid tone of this thread.

Cmon.. he was the best player & the leader on those teams. Showed up in the biggest games against MJ & Bird & in the Finals too. If not for that foul call on Laimbeer, he beats MJ, Bird & Magic/Kareem all in the same Playoff run with a legendary 43 pt 8 ast 6 stl close-out performance, on a bad ankle at that.
