I think what you're trying to do here is defend your generation of NBA players. The hand checking clips that you've shown are so few and far in between. But the reality of it is even when the hand checking rule had been written in paper long before Jordan, Bird and Magic came in to the league, the referees rarely ever called them. And this is something that someone in your generation will never understand because you never lived in it. All you see are clips. You never saw actual games in an every day basis. It's much different as Robert Horry and Jordan and all the greats have said. Look, I've never been to your channel before but as soon as I watched the first 5 mins of this video, I knew right away that you were most likely a millennial born in the late 90's. No offense on that.

Totally agree. He's pretty much doing defending this generation of NBA players as to not being labeled as "soft" because these are the players that he grew up watching and he for sure don't want to be labeled as soft as well being that these players reflect towards all players in this generation. When no handchecking was enforced offense was more spread through different players because it was easier for role-players to attack closeouts, and it forced star players to play more rigorous defense, as well. Also defense was evolving faster than offense at the time.

These are some of the reasons.

These are some of the reasons.
Defenses were getting better and better throughout the 90s. After Mike retired, Stern and the big boys upstairs realized that without MJ perimeter offense had become ugly and getting worse due to the improving defenses. They needed to appease a generation of people who grew up watching Mike. They wanted another Mike. So they changed the rules and heavily marketed any wing star they could find.
